: New member with 1970 Chevelle
chevy21 May 29th, 08, 3:43 PM Hi everyone,
I am a new member to this site. Over the weekend, I purchased my very first Chevelle. It's a 1970 Chevelle Malibu. I am very excited about this project. I see there is a lot of information on this site that will be helpful to me. So far, the car's frame has been sandblasted and shot with POR 15, new front disc brakes, and new suspension. The interior is completely out of the car. All of the body is pretty straight and in primer except for the rear quarter panels and trunk. It does need new rear quarters, wheel housings, and some patch work in the trunk. I feel a little overwhelmed at this point because I dont know exactly where to begin. Do I take the car to the body shop and get that fixed before I start building the motor or working on the interior? What should I do first? Thanks.
kettbo May 29th, 08, 3:53 PM Greetings Jesse. Welcome to Team Chevelle!
I'm not a body-repair man. I suggest you post this question to the body and paint section. You'll get lots of advice.....
Post some pics of your new toy from one of the online galleries
shadowgray396 May 29th, 08, 4:07 PM Jesse, first off welcome to the site. Most body guys like having the car on the frame to replace the rear quarters so they can line everything up and it is less stress on the body. Once the quarters and wheel housing have been completed the body may need to go onto a rotisserie to finish the bottom of the car and at that point you could have the motor and trans ready to install before you put the frame back under the car. Do a final alignment check of all the body panels before painting and do the interior last. Budget will play a big factor into what you do to the car. The more you can do the more you will save. Good luck on your car.

b krug Jun 3rd, 08, 9:59 PM Don,t know if you have done a frame off before, but it sounds like you purchased someone elses restoration project that either needed money or gave up....Hopefully he bagged and tagged all components...If not it will be like going back to school and studying for an exam....Don,t get discourged, take your time, go to swap meets, learn as much as you can, make a list of the parts you know you need and keep it with you, but learn as much as you can to make smart purchases, read, ask questions etc. Don,t be sucked in to the 1 yr project, unless you have bottomless funds allow for 2-3 yrs, you will get the most satisfaction knowing you did as much of the restoration yourself, and were smart to sub out the work you could not do....Have fun...Bob k
