trying to do a quality complete paint job, elco was repainted way back when??? how much sanding/paint removal should i do before i epoxy prime. i have to do this one section at a time for primer & body work since my facities and time are at home and not a shop. is it ok to go over the not good second paint job with epoxy or must it come off? try to keep OEM paint & primer? appriciate it, thx. john.

If it's not so good, who knows how well the paint is going to stick.

2 words---- bare metal.
yep.
it's a lot more work, but it will look much better in the long run.
Just don't be in a rush to get it done.

With the quality of todays chemicals/paints it made sense for me to take it back to the bare metal again.
Of course, the first paint job I did was all primered in the driveway with dust and dirt in it. I had no clue what block sanding meant(young dumb teenager 15 years ago). Just wanted to get something besides brown on it.The paint is still sticking today and it's pretty shiny. Although it was not perfect, the paint still stuck.
Even on it's second paint job now, I'm taking all the EDP coating off to bare metal then shoooting 2 coats of SPI epoxy on everything(Roof braces, inner quarters, floorpans, cowl, firewal, bed, etc). It really just depends on how much time you want to put into it.
