Hi guys, as I am new to all this forgive me for sounding incompetent. I am building my first car from the ground up literally, there was nothing but a shell when I started. I have a Muncie 4 speed M20, I bought all linkage as a kit from a local chevy parts resto place here in Oregon. I do not know how to set up the linkage correctly. I can move the shifter from 1-4th ok but having trouble getting it to go into rev. Also my classic manuals don't explain the linkage adjustment very well. I don't have it mounted to my 396 yet.
Sorry to be long winded, do I need to visit a transmission shop for help? Thanks in advance

The tranny is a M21 not M20, sorry was in a hurry typing side plate numbers are 3831707.
Thanks in advance if anyone has ideas, I think I might just have to have things lined up better, not sure. I have an outrageous truck repair bill so not to focused at the moment.

I wish I knew a 1-2-3 procedure to suggest, but I don't. For me it just took some tinkering till everything lined up together correctly. It may require that you move the 1/2 and 3/4 rods to better line up with the reverse gate. At least you have it out of car, so that makes it easier than crawling under the car everytime to make an adjustment. It's one of those jobs you can't be in a rush for. Good luck!

Craig, post this in the Drivetrain section if you haven't already, the guru's reside there. Good luck with your installation.
