Now that GM has released their 454 crate with the aluminum ovals (9.6:1 CR), I'm considering one for my next project.

However, if I do I would like to re-cam it for a little more power and to be at least a little different from everybody else who has one ;) .

I'd like to try a solid street roller and the cars details are this:

3300 lbs
950HP Carb
TKO Trans
3.70 Rear
Power Range: 2500 - 6500
Goal: Street friendly and 12.0 capable

Another option for a engine I'm considering is a AFR 305-headed 10.5:1 509 with something like a BB288/296F10 (flat tappet).

Opinions?

Thanks!

72StingRay,

3300 lbs, 9.8 CR 454, 3.7 rear, solid roller cam, 12s? No problem, although it may involve removing #7 spark plug wire......
The 502A3LUN, ground on a 110 LSA instead of the normal 112, will do this. Its' big brother, the 502A4(287/295--256/264--.660/.660--110), runs low-11s in a 3700lb Camaro with a 3.9 rear gear.
The 502A3Lun is 276/284 at .020, 245/253 at .050, .660/.660 valve lift, and 110 or 112 LSA. It makes 250 mile round trips, and I have used it as a daily driver for over 18 years.
Using this cam, your car should easily get into the high-11s....

Thanks Harold!

I had been looking at the Lunati site wondering if the 274 would be the cam...

So what your saying is that with this combo I could have an 11 second V7 if I'm not careful. graemlins/hurray.gif

Either way, if I go crate or build my own, I'll be giving you a call in a few weeks to place an order.

Thanks again,

Jeff
