: Preserving the rocker panel seam on the bottom of the quarter

When replacing a full quarter panel on a 67 Chevelle, how does it join with the rocker panel? There is apparently a gap there now between the lower edge of the quarter panel and the rocker panel. I don't want to lose that "seam."

I used a bunch of glue in this area when I just put my 1/4 on. I'm not happy with the gap though. The factory has almost zero gap there. the repo panel has about 3/8".

ss396boy,

What panel did you use? Full quarter, quarter panel skin, or patch panel?

Not competely sure what to do at this point. My car is rust free (AZ car), but the quarter was replaced at one time. After it was replaced it was damaged twice as far as I can tell. Looks like it was run along a pole, so it's kind of stretched. Whoever fixed it last time used a lot of filler. Since the previous panel was brazed on, I'm not sure how that will affect the job this time around.

I'm tentatively planning on ordering the full panel from Ground Up. I believe that it's a Goodmark. Do you have any pics?

I got a Dynacorn panel, that's all they make in full 1/4's for the Camino. I'm sure the Goodmark 1/4's will be good though. I'd order a pair of 1/4's and cut em off. Use sheetmetal screws to get it in place, then I marked several areas with a sharpie to make sure it was lined up correctly, then clamped in place with Glue.
I can say the Evercoat glue works pretty well. I put a small dab on a rusted piece of metal and clamped it to and unscuffed piece of EDP metal. I had to use vice grips and a vice to bust them apart, doubt you will see that much body flex though :D

Clamping time is 90 mins, which I did for the door skin(pics coming soon for you) and I left the clamps overnight on the 1/4 panel. The glue has glass beads in there so you can hear them crushing if you clamp it too much. Guess they are suppose to do that.

ss396boy,

How did you seperate the bottom edge of the quarter from the rocker panel when removing the old quarter?

If you cut most of the 1/4 away you can then drill out the spot welds that secure it.

Alwhite00,

That is what I was suspecting. How do you weld the new quarter to the rocker? The new quarter panel will be in the way, won't it?

I drilled holes in the new quarter panel where it lands on the rocker and have come from the inside with the welder. You'll need to pull your rear window and track for room.

Air Chisel with panel cutting bit. Then drill the welds out. Make sure you have the new panel before cutting the old one off.

from inside the window area. I screwed it in place with sheet metal screws first. It was a bit frustrating.
