Yesterday I went to start the Chevelle and nothing. No start click nothing. Upon deeper investigation I found the smaller wire that runs from starter to ignition was pinched between the bell housing and engine block and had bolts tightened down on it. Well I loosened up bell housing and extracted the pinched start wire. Immediately afterwards starter spinning nice but now I am not getting any spark. I pulled a plug and turned engine over and confirmed no spark. Is there any connection to that start wire and getting spark. I thought it was just a single stranded wire that sent the signal to your starter that you are in the start position. I know the wire was pinched pretty good but when I saw starter spinning I assumed it was still good.

Well I repaired the purple wire. Just as I was thinking it is a single stranded wire and thats it. seems like quite a coincidence that I suddenly have no spark.I do recall that when I first removed the pinched wire and turned the key and it sputtered like it was going to start. That is how it allways starts when it sits for a month or two. cranked it a second time and it sputtered again however that was it. After that just cranking. I guess I'll have to get the meter out. Any ideas?

Shouldn't be single strand or did you mean a single-stranded wire.
Anyway, that wire has nothing to do with it getting spark.
Start with the basics, check for 12 volts at the coil DURING cranking.

What I meant by that was a single wire that is made of many (15 to 30 ) Strands. Ok, like I said I'll have to get the meter out. Just seems odd that at that point in time it decided to not produce spark.

That IS odd Brad.
I can't think of anything off hand that would be related to what you did.

I would agree with Dean and check the voltage at the coil. I was looking at a picture of the wiring diagram, was the wire you pinched purple?? I see a purple wire running from the starter to the neutral by pass switch. But there is also a yellow wire coming from the starter... then it's t-tapped ...the yellow wire continues to the + coil ...at the T-tapped there is another purple wire going to the ignition switch so there should be voltage there to. If the coil checks out ok .... are you running an electronic distributor or points?? If electronic check to see if your getting 12 volts going to the distributor if so then the module could have went bad.... But I feel the coil could be your main problem.
