Team,
I am converting over to a vortec set up on my GEN I 350. I went to Advanced Auto last night and told them I needed plugs for a 96 tahoe with a 350. I got a set of Bosh plugs. When I took them home I noticed the threded part was about twice as long as the orginal plugs I had in my old heads. The overall length was the same, just alot more threads on the plugs they gave me. I would imagine this will allow the plugs to go depper into the head. Does this sound right?

Not sure if this helps but I asked for the same 96 Tahoe plugs for my Vortec heads. I didn't check the fitment and how far it protrudes into the combustion chamber. It works and the car idles...

Randy, you're correct. The vortecs use longer plugs.

Thanks for the info.
That should be nicer for header clearance. The total length was the same between the two , just extra threads on the vortec. That means the vortecs will be farther into the head. This could provide me some extra room between the plugs and headers. Maybe it wouldn't be such a pain to get the plug wires on. I guess I will find out.

If you're running vortecs as an upgrade for an early carburated motor, try TR-5 NGK's. I use them in my circle track motor combos using vortecs.

forget all the fancy aftermarket whatever plugs and just get some AC Delco R44LTS (Long Tapered Seat?) or R45LTS plugs and call it good.

yeah way better than the bosch plugs. Bosch makes good stuff, sparkplugs are not one of them.

Hey guys. I started this thread years ago. I'm about to do a tune up. Any new recommendations for my vortec headed SBC? I'm thinking tha AC Delco R44LTS that were recommended will be my next shot.

Use the correct plugs for the heads that are on your engine. For example, If you are running 1995 5.7 Silverado Pickup heads then initially use plugs for a 1995 5.7 Silverado Pickup. Based on what the plugs look like after a few readings then you might want to adjust the heat range of the plugs up or down based on these plug readings....
