: Filling Pits in frame after sandblasting- what to use??
sparkysgarage May 26th, 08, 12:43 PM Hey all- I have a 71 Chevelle I am restoring and have had the frame sandblasted- lots of pitting.....Wondering what is the best way to fill the pits and topcoat it with something like POR 15 or KBS Rust Seal. I would think this would be a common problem or question- any ideas on what it the best route to go to make the frame look really smooth and nice?
Thanks!
micky69396 May 26th, 08, 1:45 PM Depends on how deep. If not bad a nice filler primer, if deeper then Icing or some light filler.
rubadub May 26th, 08, 2:28 PM On the pits and pock marks I used 36 grit, then rage, then 180 and finished with red scotch brite. Painted it with epoxy.

rubadub May 26th, 08, 3:31 PM A little more here, if you want that frame on the dead ready, after your done with filling the bad areas, spray a couple good coats of z-chrome, then sand it, you will probably sand all most all of it off, but it will catch any bad areas, then epoxy over that.

BlueSS454 May 26th, 08, 3:36 PM Personally, if it's not bad, use a good fill primer. If they are alittle deep, I'd go over it with some metal glaze then run over it with a 6" DA, prime, sand by hand with 180, seal and paint.

I wouldn't waste your time with the Zchome, just use some Rage filler and a 2 wet coats of SPI epoxy.

On my control-arms, I sprayed Epoxy,2 coats K38, sanded, Epoxy. They are ultra smooth.

I'll agree with you on that RubDubber has done an outstanding job on his frame. Now lets see if he can get the body done in the next few years. :D
