I've heard good things about American autowire and M & H wiring. I've never used them myself but,
I understand "Painless" is anything but !

American auto wire is excellent. Plug and play. Just like the factory.

How about "upgraded" wiring harnesses, the ones with modern fuses, circuit breakers, and additional leads etc. for modernizing the wiring to accept items like electric coolant fans, adding A/C, HEI ign ...

What feedback do others have?

I second that on the M&H stuff. Great quality and easy to work with.

How much does a wiring harness run for say a 1972 chevelle?

It all depends on which harnesses you are talking about. I replaced the engine harness and the forward lamp harness on my '70 from M&H for $326.00 including shipping.

If you read enough postings here on TC, you constantly run across comments regarding reproduction items of all kinds and most of the comments are usually negative. I can honestly say that the harnesses that I bought from M&H were the highest quality of any repro part that I've ever bought when it comes to matching the original item. Connectors, wire lengths, colors, qauges - everything was dead nuts on. Even the plastic clips that hold the harnesses in place were exactly where the holes that they snap into are located. I can't speak for American Autowire, but comments here on TC seem to put the quality on the same par as M&H. I doubt if you would go wrong with either company.

I have 64-67 American AutoWire kit for my 64 Malibu. I am in the process of doing the install now. It is relatively easy, the kit has AWESOME directions, all the wires are labeled and its a plug and play situation. So far I have been very happy with it. I paid $450 for mine from a dealer that I found at the Pomona Swapmeet. You can also go to American Autowires website, and ive seen them on ebay too. Hopefully this helps!! :beers:

i just bought a kit from E-Z wiring. It was less than 200 bux shipped to Ca from Fl. I havent installed it yet, but this is the kit that a custom car builder i know uses on his 6 figure hot rods, so i figured for that kind of money i would give it a shot. It comes with a workbook and gives u advice on the proper procedures for separating the car into different parts(in terms of wiring). it seems like a dam good kit to me.

The Painless 20102 is for that exact thing, with all the extras. I put it in my chevelle. The kit is very nice, the wires are all labeled, had a couple problems, one they had the choke wire hooked to wrong pin, they knew of the problem and told me how to fix it, was easy. The other is I have factory A/C, which threw a big curve to them, their tech line helped until it got tough, than their excuse was they are not at the car, I loved everything about the kit until than, it seemed like it was a universal kit, and I paid more for the so called "muscle car harness" which is not suppose to be "universal" sure seemed like it at that point, as far as the rest of it, I have never done this before, I'm not an electrician, and I did it just fine. As far as their "20hrs" to do the project, YEAH RIGHT!! I was laid off and I worked on it everyday for around two weeks, took my time and zip tied and routed everything very nice, no bugs except the whole A/C thing. Good luck, Jeff , By the way check several web sites for prices, I found over a hundred dollars difference between places.

M&H. Why re-invent the wheel. Plug and play just like the factory did it. I have built a few hot rods in my time and had to use painless type systems for those cars. But for a factory car you can't beat M&H or American Auto wire
