Im aiming for 8 sec slips with my 2900lbs car.

Please don't leave out the large oval port closed chambered heads AND lower domed pistons for better flame travel for your quest..

All ovalport heads are counted ;) I didnt remeber the cast ing numbers ;)

I have managed a 9.32/140mph trip on the rev limiter with 150+150 shot of n2o this in a 2900lbs car on a non prepared track.

I got $4000 bucks into my bloody #781's, and I am going to go fast with them, even if I have to melt them right off the top of the engine!

Thats a lot of money ;) what have you done with them?

Mine have 2.19/1.88 valves and just some minor grinding to take away rust.

I know of a Mustang from sweden that went 8.8x with Non aftermarket Ovals.

Anyone know a faster?

I had a 468 with #049 heads that made 697 H.P.,and went 9.46 @ 143 in a #3800 1972 Monte Carlo on spray.

I bought a set of "781" bare heads that I found at a machine shop in central Tx. for $200. I have since had them machined here locally and had 2.19/1.88 valves installed. I would say I have approx. $1200 total in these heads at this point. I will be doing some porting to them myself after all, but I still cannot imagine what could cost $4000 with these heads..... :confused: What have you had done ?

These posted numbers look real nice and I am glad I have these heads for my 454. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Let's see. Castings, guides {had to be redone} stainless valves, keepers, ti retainers, used pacaloys, guides, ARP screw in studs, machining for such, competition valve job {had to be redone}, chamber polishing, porting {extensive, and hogged out to much in the throat area}, set spring pressures, wash, deck, $2900 Canadian. {yeah, he saw me comming, but this was my second motor with him} :( Re-do the valve guides after 10 dyno pulls {he set them between 3.5 and 4.5 thou. valves stem to guide :eek: . Re-do valve job for wider seats, and lower spring pressures, $865.00 Canadian :mad: . Rebuilt at his hated competitor.
He hasn't seen my wallet since my engine walked out of his shop. My project was one of many that left his shop in anger, unfinished. He was paid in full. The shop is for sale. graemlins/hurray.gif

I would start with a set of cast-iron Merlin ovals and port them out to about 325 or so to get where you want to be..

I have a mag. somewhere with an article in it called "Rat Attack" that they did this to a set and installed them on an RHS, 505" Super Gas motor.

I pulled my project, spent another wad of cash to fix his mistakes, and will never darken his dorstep again. Btw, a machinist im my home town wants to talk to me about funding a startup. I told him I'm interested. As long as I get the best end of the deal, I'm in. {and he has a shot at becoming much more than an already excellent aerospace machinist}

IMHO,getting a stock BBC head up to "snuff" ain't that hard..if you don't bother with hardened exhaust seats,buying the valves and paying for the throat cut (an unshrouding if they're closed chamber) isn't expensive nor is it rocket science.A basic home "clean up" of the heads can be done at home if you're reasonably confident.Guys like Ed,Todd,and Godsend are running some very,very impressive ET's with stock oval castings with no major work done to them. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
