Derek69SS May 25th, 08, 7:42 PM As humid as it was today I was expecting to get hit hard, but it never hit down here (by Rochester)
BPM67Chevy May 25th, 08, 7:51 PM News is now showing helicopter pics. MAJOR damage as a full tornado wiped out many homes to the ground in Hugo just 17 Miles from us. I can only hope that the people where away for their Holiday weekend. This is total distruction.

Chris R May 26th, 08, 1:51 AM Nothing like the first big storm of the season. Im in the northern metro and got the heavy rain but the serious stuff happened not far north from us. Hugo and Coon Rapids got hit really hard.
Bowtie-72 May 26th, 08, 12:12 PM We got missed by about a whole mile. Gonna survey damage today. A few of the kids friends live right about in the area hit.
Finally May 26th, 08, 12:41 PM Stay save guys, this is one of the worst years for tornados in years, and we're only halfway through the peak season.
SS396ELKY May 26th, 08, 9:34 PM I hope everyone is safe and dry. I saw on the news that Hugo MN experienced the almost the same as Greensburg KS. Lots of damage! I also saw what looked like a Chevelle caught in the destruction path. It looked to be a Maroon w/white stripes. Did anyone else see that on the ABC evening news?
We (Central Kansas) are getting pounded by storms right now. It has rained so much I'm going to start building an ark. One Tornado and 100 mile an hour straight line winds hit Wichita last night. The tornado was about 20 miles north of my house.
Derek69SS May 26th, 08, 10:15 PM My sister will now have their 3rd roof on their 4-year-old house.
70ChevelleRagtop May 27th, 08, 1:09 PM 7 people killed here in east central Iowa. One of the local tv stations did an air survey with a helicopter and said the big twister left a 46 mile long trail of destruction that was over a mile wide in some places. One town, Parkersburg, had 1/3 of it wiped off the map including the high school. Good thing it wasn't a school day.
We had 75 mph straight line winds at my place for over 30 minutes. My flag pole was bent at least 8' to the side. I still can't believe it didn't snap.
Ricks70ss May 27th, 08, 2:03 PM We got some damage from that storm. One two sides of the house. cracked or with holes in the siding. Thank God We put my wifes car in the garage before we left for shopping. Hell we were in Menard'e shopping for a washer. When my daughter called. Asked where we were. I told her Coon Rapids.MN. She said get out of there now. A tornado is headed that way. So we walked out of there to see the blackest clouds we seen in yrs. So we headed south for about 20 mins. And watched it go by. Close enough for me. At least we still had power And my dish network still on the roof.
SS396ELKY May 27th, 08, 2:03 PM Well the totals are in:
Wichita KS or Central Kansas had 11.34" of rain in two days (Sat & Sun).
2.5 on Monday. 7 reported tornado across central KS Monday and 15 unconfirmed tornados across the state. Baseball size hail in the west and 75 mph straight line winds reported in Wichita and in the surrounding areas of Wichita.
What a weekend...

To put this into perspective, Rick was about 800 yards from touchdown.
droptop396 May 27th, 08, 7:48 PM I also saw what looked like a Chevelle caught in the destruction path.
My wife called me at work this morning to tell me that she was listening to the radio and that a survivor of the Hugo MN Tornado was telling his story and mentioned that this neighbors house and garage was destroyed along with the cars. He mentioned one of them as being a 1966 Chevelle.
As long as the people are OK that is all that matters. Very sad and tragic.
