I need to order a new a/c line for my 71 Chevelle. I have heard 71 can have a muffler on the A/C line or not one. Right now I have a one.

I have seen a new line without the muffler for under 100.00

Year One wants 195.00 for their line (PN AM223).....I figure it will have the muffler for that price. But, there is no picture on the web site or in the catalog.

Do I need the muffler on it?

Joe,
I am not an AC expert, but usually if GM or another car manufacturer puts a particular part on a car, it is a good idea to replace it with the same thing. What is wrong with your line ? See if you can find a "real" parts store in your area that still makes up the lines, if yours just needs the rubber part it might be fixable.

As far as Year One goes, why not just call them and ask ?????????????

Thanks Bill. It seems that 71 was a year that could go either way with the muffler. Maybe early 71's used left over 70 lines or something. I am not sure.
As far as whats wrong with mine, I tried to be slick with the A/C line. I didn't want it running in front of the engine so I cut it. Then had it TIG welded back on so the line was rotated 180 degrees or so and would run behind the motor. It looks real nice, but I cant get the system to hold a charge now. It was fine before I cut, so I have to assume the weld is not holding. Plus its now oily around the weld.

On tuesday I plan to call year one, they are closed this weekend. I was hoping someone here might know.
