: wolfplace, and others, timeslip update and big question
Nickel333 Jul 31st, 04, 12:47 PM Well i hit the track for the second time. I got a new clutch free from the shop that built it and got it in before car craft. Drove up there had a blast, drove back and no problems so i went to the track.Best previous pass was a 12.60 @ 111mph. Best pass of the day was a 12.11 @113.3
60 foot was a 1.66!! 330' was 4.957, 1/8 mile was 7.736 @89.98, 1000 foot was 10.12. This is with a stick shift remember so im not dead nuts consistant. But my big question is....why the hell am i not pulling harder on top. I should be nicly into the 11's with a 1.66 60 foot, hitting all my shifts and making a smooth pass....especially with my top end oriented motor.
Motor is an 11.1:1 350, brodix RR200's with CNC option, a howard 302/310, 268/278@.050 .560/.572 lift on a 108 installed straight up, team G intake, 750 mighty demon, 1 7/8" primary 3 1`/2 inch collectors, open exaust. With parts like this i was expecting a slug off the line and having it pull like a bitch on top but it seems the opposite, heck all i have are el cheapo slapper bars. I came off the line at close the 4,000 RPM, i went through the traps around 7,000 and was shifting at 7,500 Im lost here. Should there really be 2 whole seconds in between 1,000 and 1320 feet? Any suggestions would be great and ill answer when i can, provided i can get to a computer {mines toast!!} Thanks alot
Bob West Jul 31st, 04, 12:58 PM What gears? what kind of car? The slapper bars is why I was asking... Thats how mine works at our performance level, 2 seconds between 1000ft and 1/4 mile. Albeit a 350 with a bunch of good parts, I'd be happy with those numbers graemlins/thumbsup.gif its definately running with us mild big block guys. Good Job!!
Wolfplace Jul 31st, 04, 1:18 PM Hey Nick,, how's it goin,,
Nice numbers graemlins/beers.gif Glad you're out there havin at it.
Couple of thing I don't like.
I think the headers are too big,, & I still don't like that cam in an 11.0 350 especially the seat timing.
About 10 degrees less & advanced like 4 would be my choice.
Like an Isky 547B on a 108 or a Z60,, something in that area. The 547 is 288/296, 258/236
BillK Jul 31st, 04, 2:04 PM Nick,
Something doesn't "jive" here, but then again, I dont have all the needed info.
I "guessed" at a 30" tire, and I am pretty sure 4th gear in the Richmond is 1.24 to 1, at least mine is. There is no way you are using 5th gear or you would be at about 150 mph, but with no slipping, a 30" tire, 1.24:1 4th gear, and 4.11 rear gears ... at 7000 rpm you should be at about 123 mph. So ... what is wrong ?? Is the clutch slipping in 4th gear ? Is your tach wrong ... dont laugh .. when I first built my 67 Camaro, I couldn't figure out why it was not running as fast as I thought it would ... a new tach picked the car up from an 11.80 to an 11.15  The old tach was reading almost 1000rpm too high, I was shifting at 6500 instead of 7500 like I thought :( I dont think I would be ready to look at fuel, cam, etc yet. Find out why the rpm / mph does not match and I bet you will find the problem.
Post some better info ... tire size, what gear you are in at the finish line and what ratio it is, etc.
Nickel333 Jul 31st, 04, 4:34 PM Wolf, a cam change in order, and im taking suggestions. I just want to see what i could get out of this one before it goes to the way side. I taked to the brodix tech at Car Craft, and he said that single pattern cams run great on my heads....the reason they dont look good on the exaust side is because they dont flow them with a pipe. We talked for a few minutes and said he knew you. I run 4.11 gears, with the 1.24 fourth gear in the richmond. The tires are hooiser quick time pros. 28" x 11.5" on a 15 in rim. The clutch dosent seem to be slipping in 4th but who knows. I dont know why it would though. Somthing just isnt adding up. How would i check to see if my tach is messed up?
Motor Martyr Jul 31st, 04, 5:19 PM Nick, the headers are too large, you will find that a smaller set of headers will help the car power off of the shifts, and help bring the engine into its RPM band when shifting into high gear.
Additionally the cam is too large for your Compression and RPM's.
The 1/8 mile ET is impressive, but it seems to fall off a little, it could be in the jetting and timing. Do timing and jetting loops when you can get enough track time.
You should be proud, thats an impressive time slip.
It must be slipping, because my car has 4.10 gears, 28" tall tires and an automatic, i'm turning 6000-6200rpms through the traps at 110.5mph
If you continue to use the stick, i would think that the 4.11 gears would make it tough on the tranmission, coupled with the weight of the car (3300lbs?)
Nickel333 Jul 31st, 04, 5:47 PM I agree 100% on the header suggestion and have looked into it. I just need to find somone who wants to swap. Any takers????
Wolfplace Jul 31st, 04, 6:43 PM I'd say the tach is pretty close.
I come up with 6931 with a 1.24 x 4.11 & a 28" tire
Nickel333 Jul 31st, 04, 8:50 PM wolf what are all the specs on that 547 B cam? And how much can you get isky's for? You sure that would run on pump 91 all the time?

No I'm not sure but I would expect it to.
At 11.0 you might need to play with it a bit, you might need a little more intake lobe or need to run it with a little less advance.
email me on the pricing, I can do pretty fair ;)
Lonnie67 Aug 1st, 04, 12:35 AM Nice run Nickel,
What car is it? Weight?
Nickel333 Aug 1st, 04, 8:48 PM 73 Nova, Race weight is 3500 lbs {3260 car, and me}
Harold Sutton Aug 2nd, 04, 1:22 AM With a total gear ratio of 5.0964 i don't think your clutch is slipping with 113 MPH trap speeds. You might find your real tire size might actually be a little less than 28" as these sizes usually are shorter than advertised so they fit stock wheelwells better and the old time trap speed would have been about 114 MPH which seems about right for a 11-1, non sorted out 350 Chevy. I think i would follow Wolfy's advise on the headers and cam also if i were you.
Aaron Kelley Aug 2nd, 04, 1:57 AM Hey your MPH looks pretty good. Comparing our times and MPH (see my sig). It looks like your making some good power. Maybe some gear would help?
Just a thought
