I've been out of the Chevelle market for quite a while. Thinking of getting rid of my '72 SS 402/4 speed car and looking for a 350/auto chevelle. I just don't know the going rates nowadays on these cars.
I've been watching ebay and the prices don't make sense...some way high, some way low, and not always in accordance to the condition of the car.
Anyone know a good place to really get a fair market value for these cars, or do you just put an ad out with a ridiculous price and see if someone would pay it?!!
If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Meanwhile, I'll be putting a clutch in this one before it loses all ability to move under it's own power!

Howdy neighbor! You've come to the right place for accurate info on your 72. You will get some excellent educate estimates if you post some pictures in the FWIW Forum: http://www.chevelles.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=60 They like detailed pictures.
But, IF you are happy with the 72 in other respects, why not pull the 402 and install a 350 auto combination, or even a late model EFI motor. You know the 72, whats been done & what needs to be done. With a new car you couldn'r really be sure of its condition. Just a thought. And again welcome.

Welcome Bob. I was going to ask you how are things in Odessa but I lived there 70/71 and played golf at OC so I already know. It ain't no place for a boy from East Texas.
As advised take some pics and post it under the What's it worth section. Word it carefully as not to resemble a for sale ad. Two things will happen. You will get a pretty close appraisal for free and the possibility a buyer may come to you.
Do not be offended by the comments as they are real. I will save mine until then except for this one......I think you are trading down.

Welcome Robert.
I agree with the others. Start a "whats it worth" thread. Like John said, You will get honest opinions, whether you want them or not.
I also don't know why you'd want to sell a 72 U-code 4-speed for a 350 auto!!

I'll try to get the details up in the next couple of days, as I'll finally have some days off.
I know it sounds insane to alot of people for me to have a desire of ridding myself of a true SS (build sheet included) for a 'lesser' car. I just never cared a whole lot about whether I had an SS or not. My first hot-rod was a wore out '71 Malibu equipped with 350/th350, ps, pdb, and a/c. She wasn't a pretty specimen...never made it past primer and shotty interior, but if I could track that exact car back down I'd dang near be willing to trade my '72 for it.
All in all, what may end up happening is just setting this one aside or let my wife drive it and just buy another one to play with
