depley May 23rd, 08, 6:55 PM I don't get the fascination. Here you have a car that needs trunk pan, trunk lid, complete restoration and he wants 25 grand before you start. As I see it its a what $35K-$40K car done, where is the end to the madness? Is it a desirable car, sure but its a #4 car at best which makes it worth $15K-$20K at best as it sits. I would lean more towards the $15K side based on what he says.

I think there is a mistake in your numbers to start with. A finished, desireable color, 4 speed, documented LS-5 car, with a LOT of original parts is worth a lot more than 40K. This car done right, is possibly in the 55K to 70K range depending on the quality of the resto. To someone who could do all the work themselves and not have to pay a shop rate, this car could be worth 35K. To spend 6 months of your spare time finishing this car in your shop and maybe net 30K, doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. FWIW, I think it ends up around 35K give or take a little. P.S. That car would sell a hundred times over in a second at 15K
depley May 23rd, 08, 7:33 PM There in lies the problem, show me all these cars worth that money that have sold. Sure you spend a whole lot more you might get more, but there in lies the crux of the problem. People keep THINKING they can get that money, they just aren't getting that unless you go by high end auctions. I doubt you could pay someone to do it all and only spend $30K. You end up with like the local guy did with his $50K Camaro that ended up costing $100K.
Lets just say that they are selling for 50K, you spend $25K for this then another $30K as you say to have it done. well I think I am losing money on that deal.

$30k to re do it is MINIMUM, i'd say you're looking closer to high 30's, low 40's, you might be lucky to break even after it's all done. Beautiful car with potential, but to start with, 25k is rather expensive for a car that needs to be done from the frame up, 18-22k max...imo.
mr 4 speed May 23rd, 08, 7:48 PM That is a 70K car all day long finished..the smart buyer will be the one that has the skill and connections to get the car done without spending outrageous money farming it out.
You will never find a car of that potential caliber for 15K..never! (those days are over)
:)
704EVER May 23rd, 08, 7:48 PM Hey DeWayne, re-read my post. To someone who can do the work themselves, this car may be worth 35K to them. As I believe, a correctly done, highly desireable color, 4 speed, documented, LS 5 car, may be worth 55K to 70K depending on the resto. There is money to be made for the guy who can accomplish this on a part time basis in his own shop. If a guy has to send this car out and pay shop rates, there is no profit to be made. He will be upside down in a N.Y. second. You don't see this type of documented project very often. The end of the auction will tell us all what todays' market is. Just my .02

Well I come out better selling mine to you for $4500 than I do buying the other one. At least I am only losing $500
BlueSS454 May 23rd, 08, 9:35 PM I could redo that whole car turn key for less than $15K I bet. That's the bonus of being able to do EVERYTHING yourself :). You don't have to do anything to the engine, trans, or rear. The chassis can be completed for less than $2000. it doesn't look like it needs any metal work, there's a bonus. Most of the money in that car will be tired up with interior restoration, and paint materials.
The quality of the restoration would sell the car easily. And I do know an LS5 that brought good $$$ because it was a very well done restoration.
WAX-UM May 23rd, 08, 9:45 PM If it means anything here is a pic of my 70 LS5 M22 car I paid 18,100 for it 2 years ago as in the pics 69k original miles documented owner history. But it is not as solid as the car above.
If you dont think its worth it show me a better deal. I spent a year looking for mine. Did I think it was worth 18,100. No I didnt but It was the only big 454 M22 documented car I found under 35k in any shape. No joke Maybe Im stupid but I worked very very hard to find it and nothing else even came close.

savage71chevelless May 23rd, 08, 10:19 PM definitely don't like the squared off stripes. How rare are they? I've never seen a Chevelle with them. I saw that the body tag had an L in it, just like the Baltimore cars have BD. There is no way in the world that you could convince me that the Kansas cars with the L, and Baltimore cars with BD are not true SS cars
1badss396 May 23rd, 08, 10:26 PM I think its worth the coin it will get, the car looks like its in excellent condition.
Hell I paid 10K for my 69 just because I wanted the rosewood steering wheel:D
And I was going to make it a pro tour car until I got all the docs, original engine, build sheet, window sticker from the original owner to prove it was a real ss car so I had no other choice but to restore it back to original.
Which was the correct thing to do.
shawnW May 23rd, 08, 10:43 PM Nice car for todays prices, I paid 17,800. for this turquois mist in 99 fully restored origional running gear ls5 with buildsheet and protecto plate m22, and I paid 20,000. for the ls5 convertable in 2000 with 2 build sheets and origional running gear, but it needed total resto . By the way the misty car had the malibu mld added at the bot for looks before I purchased it it came with one build sheet and another was found on the second resto a few years later.
blacknblue May 23rd, 08, 10:55 PM Real cars bring Real money. The reason you don't see "all these cars" bring top dollar is because there usually suspect, be it questionable documentation, stampings, etc. How many so called #'s matching LS-5s and LS-6's have we seen on Ebay that have build dates of Sept., Oct., Nov. I think this car is a no excuses #s matching LS-5 with documentation that you can see before restoration. How many have surfaced in the last 2-3 years? I think the black one that 70BOWTIE SS sold, went for 20K and it was a lot worse than this car. I'm not knocking the black car, just using it as a comparison. There just are not that many cars like this left out there any more. I think it's an easy 30K car.

IMHOWIHV (In My Humble Opinion, Which I Highly Value), I think it's worth it, WAX!
I own a '70 LS-6, M-22, which I ordered from the Factory and still own and it's FULLY documented (Orig. window sticker, PoP, dealer contract and invoice, build sheet) with 14,460 original miles. Since I paid about $4100 for it at the time, it must be worth at the very least, THAT much! :)
