: 2010 Camaro
BillsCamino May 22nd, 08, 9:20 PM I don't remember if this was posted yet but here's a Road & Track article on the 2010 Camaro...with actual pics and specs.

savage71chevelless May 22nd, 08, 9:36 PM I love it, I want one, especially the SS model, but I think what happens to gas prices in the next 12-18 months will really determine the success of this car
Andy69 May 22nd, 08, 9:37 PM It doesn't look like a 70 Chevelle. I think it sucks.
DanG May 22nd, 08, 9:39 PM Looks kinda like a Mopar to me...
chevelledude71 May 22nd, 08, 9:41 PM It's no Mustang, but it will do in a pinch. :)
Brian_d May 22nd, 08, 10:35 PM I liked it till the pic of back end of it - EWW!!! They could use some styling cues form the first gen camaros for those taillights, etc.! Man, is that odd looking!
thunderstruck507 May 22nd, 08, 11:42 PM I dont recall the concept ass end looking that bad...did they change something? Looks too new Chargerish from the rear now...especially with the oversized narrow wheels.
I'm starting to like it less than I did.
esponet May 23rd, 08, 1:59 AM i do believe in europe trun signals has to be amber. i think we could expect it to be all red when the production comes out.
as for me, i will wait till the 11, i'm afraid the 10 models would have plenty of bugs. that and i don't want to pay dealer mark up on t he 1st model year. ohh and i need to save my pennies. i now have a big car payment that has a big tank to fill.
Pete 67 May 23rd, 08, 3:12 AM It doesn't look like a 70 Chevelle. I think it sucks.
Agreed. The ass end looks like a 70s Datsun 210.
GM, as always, is right on top of things.
novaderrik May 23rd, 08, 4:30 AM it's not important what a bunch of muscle car owners think of it- it's important what the 20-40 year old general public thinks of it.
it looks just about goofy enough to make the 16-24 year olds want to trade their Hondas in for one- and if it has a peppy V6 base engine that gets good mileage and a back seat and trunk that are usable and they can keep the price down somewhat, then it might have a chance against the Mustang in the marketplace.
davewho1 May 23rd, 08, 6:44 AM I'm not feeling it - looks like a Mercedes they grafted some of those fake rear brake cooling vents on. I do hope they sell a bunch of 'em, though.
GRN69CHV May 23rd, 08, 8:00 AM Seems to me a base V-8 package using the 5.3 with the sequential cylinder mode (isn't that what they call the 8-6-4 firing??) would fill the bill for a fuel efficient V-8 powered rear drive coupe. Guy at work has a 5.3 powered '06 Monte Carlo SS. For me, this car made in rear wheel drive would be great. What we seem to always end up with is too large a gap between the V-6 cars and then a large jump to a V-8. Given where things are headed, I would think a 5.3 powered SS, then jump to a Z28 for the 6.2 with an option for a SC 6.2 on the Z28 for those that actually have to have that much power. Just my two cents.
MalibuMike70 May 23rd, 08, 8:04 AM I see the anti-GM folks are at early. You guys are so quick to complain about everything including taillights(could you pick anything smaller? taillights?) Be happy there is a performance car back in the GM-line up. A V-8, rear wheel drive, great performance and you guys are complaining still? you guys need to find another hobby
JYags May 23rd, 08, 8:22 AM Ain't happening for me. The concept car looked badass, the pre-production model looks awkward to me. Not when the SS will be priced in the upper $30k range and gas is $4 to $5 a gallon and I have a mortgage and family to support. The old Chevelle is my hobby and I plan to keep it that way.

Taillights are a huge factor in a car's appearance IMHO. If it was a bolt on & wouldn't ruin the value of my 67, I would've loved to put 66 taillights on it. I am too much of a purist, however.
How much different, & for the better, did the late 80s early 90s Mustang GTs look when guys switched LX taillights on them. Those are just 2 examples, but the list could go on & on.
However that is only my opinion. So if you plan on running out to buy one when (if?) they become available...knock yourself out. Nobody here is gonna stop you. I just happen to think it's ugly.
Maybe you need another walk on the beach. ;)

your cryin about taillights and I'm the one that needs a walk? If that is the biggest problem with the camaro, get me a dozen.
Incredibility petty

That's funny how different people like different things, that is precisely why I like the 67 over the 66, the taillights. If I had a 66, I would find a way to put the 67 taillights on :)
Brettd85 May 23rd, 08, 10:18 PM I agree its hideous all around, especially the tail lights. No way will it do as well as the new mustang and nowhere near as cool as the challenger. All IMO...
Derek69SS May 23rd, 08, 10:24 PM I like it. It looks like a new car, with a slight resemblance to the first-gen... Mustang & Challenger was the result of designers getting lazy and/or running out of ideas. :D
chevelledude71 May 23rd, 08, 10:30 PM I like it. It looks like a new car, with a slight resemblance to the first-gen... Mustang & Challenger was the result of designers getting lazy and/or running out of ideas. :D
Like the sensitive fellow said earlier...WHAT EVER SELLS. :)
My boss at work has a 68 and I have an 08GT and we parked them next to each other and pointed out the SLIGHT RESEMBLANCES. Both are great looking cars and that's why they continue to sell.
Now, the slight resemblance and lazy comparison, what's the difference? The designers are probably running out of ideas, the Mustang has been selling since day one. :)
LKSV8 May 24th, 08, 7:17 AM hey bill , i like it , it looks well in black, it has certain european touches to it, but it would look cool as hell here in ireland as do most american muscle cars,:D:D:D.
blumont May 24th, 08, 9:49 AM I kinda like it too. I agree the tail lights could be better, in my opinion anyway. I would like to see it up next to a 69. I saw the new Challenger at the World of Wheels show. It looked huge compared to its predecesor(sp?? ) but it still looked nice. At least these new designs (camaro, challenger and mustang) have a look of their own and don't look like everything else on the road
RyanNilcea05 May 24th, 08, 10:19 AM It's ok... It's just a shell of it's former self...
Derek69SS May 24th, 08, 10:20 AM I like that you won't mistake it for a real first gen when you see it on the highway... or worse yet, see a real first gen on the highway, and mistake it for "just another new car".
If I owned a '71 Challenger, I'd be pissed that everybody and their brother could go to a dealer and buy a new car that looks like mine. Imagine being at a show with your classic musclecar, and some dufus comes up to you and says he has one JUST LIKE YOURS except it's brand new and has a V6... and to most people, he'd be right. :clonk:
HighSchool70SS May 24th, 08, 10:53 AM I am tired of waiting for it, the hype will be gone by the time it hits showrooms. Chevy drops the ball again.
bigdave May 24th, 08, 11:15 AM The back end is a disappointment. Have 3 different 1st gen camaros I would think they could have taken style cues from them. having the 69 louvers on it I would have liked to see the wheel wells openings flattened out at the top.
66 L78 ragtop May 24th, 08, 12:02 PM I like the car and I think that the taillights are somewhat reminiscent of the 1968 camaro taillights....reminiscent is all it should be, not identical...If you get a red version of the new camaro and black out the rear panal, the resemblance would become more obvious...Just my opinion as owner of first Gen Camaros.

Derek69SS May 24th, 08, 12:12 PM Beautiful Camaros! I love how they look without the rear spoilers... you rarely ever see them without one. Both bigblock cars too.

Thanks Derek
The car on the street is my 68 RS/SS L78 convertible with M22 trans...
real numbers matching car....
mmurphy77 May 24th, 08, 1:41 PM I wish they housed the lenses together like your '68 (which is stunning by the way).
olkickdown May 25th, 08, 12:41 AM Good looking car. Let's hope it's well built.
Tony
LateNight72 May 27th, 08, 2:05 PM The tail lights are not going to be orange. I believe the had to switch them out to make them compliant to drive over in germany. :o
bri2203 May 27th, 08, 2:25 PM this is a little off subject but..
Can someone more specifically Derek, explains how this statement is possible.
When refering to the Nürburgring test track..."the blistering pace set by the Corvette ZR1 at 7:40 and the Nissan GT-R Spec V, which ran an unofficial 7:25. "
I hope there unofficial time is off by at least 20 seconds!!! If that is true what a kick in the balls that is to the ZR1(One of Americas first super cars). I know the GT-R is AWD so I would think it would be easier to handle on the track, but it only has 3/4 the power of the ZR1. But for at least 30,000 less than the ZR1 the GT-R looks to be a decent buy but its pretty ........Ugly.
I give props to the GT-R as it a Twin Turbo 3.8 V6 thats can go 0-60 in 3.3 seconds!!! I know its AWD but where the turbo lag?
Well the followging pictures should explain who my vote if for. I only got up to 10mph and it was rev limited to 3,000 rpm.

chevelledude71 May 27th, 08, 2:29 PM BRI...I like that fuel economy number. :) Damn, that's a beautiful car. Were you test driving it?

To my knowledge, the ZR1 has yet to go around the 'Ring, or atleast yet to publish time. The ZO6 did it in 7:42 in bad conditions.
About the GT-R
What the press release said: Standard run-flat tires. Dry track. The conditions were perfect according to the driver.
I'm calling BS on the GT-R time.
bri2203 May 27th, 08, 2:44 PM BRI...I like that fuel economy number. :) Damn, that's a beautiful car. Were you test driving it?
When I first got in it was at .6 and when I got done after driving it a 1/4 mile it was up to .9 mpg. We had a big corvette function last weekend and my brother and I were responsible for transporting the ZR1 from point A to Point B 10 miles away.
So the only drive time was on the trailor and off and a few circles around the parking lot.
Derek69SS May 27th, 08, 3:47 PM C4 'vettes don't have the greatest IRS setups... I don't know if the suspension was any different for ZR1s, but a well set up Chevelle with sticky tires can run on par with stock C4s, even on a tight track. C5 'vettes were a huge step up in the chassis department.
thunderstruck507 May 27th, 08, 3:49 PM the wheels are too tall and too narrow is my biggest complaint...looks too sissy
but I was just curious if they did change the rear any cause it looks a bit different than I remember

Ohh... You're talking about the C4 ZR-1. I think bri got confused and thought you were talking about the C6 ZR1, as did I. :o
BillsCamino May 27th, 08, 8:54 PM Ummm....back to the Camaro???

davis95 May 27th, 08, 9:51 PM I am interested, but I still have a hard time getting past the look of the rear light panel.
chevelledude71 May 28th, 08, 12:16 AM Lol!

I just skimmed the article, and never looked at Bri's pictures. :clonk: I didn't realize the new ZR1 was even to production yet. :o

sorry to break it to you, but im 18, and it think its fugly. like you guys have been saying, the ass end is just gross. i like the rest of it. I hope chevy redisigns it a year or two in so it looks more original.
madmax66 May 28th, 08, 11:53 AM Looks like a Dodge Charger. I also agree the back looks butt ugly.. I will take my classic car over this thing any day.
Looking at most new Chevy cars, I am sure the interior is the typical plastic cheap looking junk. Even the interior of the new vette looks cheap.
LateNight72 May 28th, 08, 12:01 PM Alright, here's my question. Why does everything HAVE to look like the original for someone to buy it? If they made an exact copy of the '67/'68/'69, then it would sell like hot cakes (a la': Mustang, Challenger).
Why can't it be an original design with a few "cues"?
webfoot May 28th, 08, 1:10 PM Alright, here's my question. Why does everything HAVE to look like the original for someone to buy it?
I always wondered that too. I guess guys on a muscle car site who will always like the original better. I doubt I'll ever buy an old camaro, but I'd definitely consider a new one.
savage71chevelless May 28th, 08, 6:20 PM i've gotta see one in person, before i bite the bullet, but at least my uncle works for GM, and right out of the gate, I will be able to buy one for employee price, instead of paying 5k over sticker like every other Tom Dick and Harry

It's great having "benefits" doesn't it? :)
1badss396 May 29th, 08, 7:40 PM I think GM will be out of business before they build any of those cars. JMO:yes:

I don't think GM will be out of business, but I'm hoping they bring back the Vega.
1badss396 May 29th, 08, 9:04 PM I don't think GM will be out of business, but I'm hoping they bring back the Vega. Now that was funny:thumbsup: they would be better off doing that with the fuel prices these days...

I saw a Chevette at a car show last weekend. It was cherry.
savage71chevelless May 29th, 08, 10:14 PM It's great having "benefits" doesn't it? :)
It's one of the reasons I am strongly considering buying one when they come out. I figure the SS with the LS2 will probably sticker for 30-31 and I can get it for 27 or so, while everyone else pays about 35. Have fun for a year and sell it for what I paid for it :)
Shevelle May 29th, 08, 11:47 PM SEMA just sent this article out with spy shots of the new Camaro SS...
