Almost everything that i have read about the 906 350 vortec heads say that you can pick up between 20 and 40 horsepower over stock heads. I am considering buying a set of 305 58cc vortec heads to replace the 186 stock castings on my 331. Can I expect a similar performance increase from the 305 vortecs?
How much more could I pick up with a set of 58cc aluminum heads if i keep everything else constant. I know i have to change the intake. I mean if i keep the rest of my engine parameters constant. Its currently a 331 with a 9.4 SCR and a 7.8 DCR, 216/228 @0.050 Lunati with 454/480 lift, performer intake and headers.

The 305 "vortec" heads are no where near as good as their bigger brothers. I would never consider using them.

What's the casting # on the 305 Vortec heads?

Anyone think these would be good to drop on my 71 307? Maybe with a mild cam and 4 barrel? Stafford swap meet coming in 2 weeks and I was thinking of looking for a pair if I could get them cheap.

You'd be better off with 305HO (L69) heads from a 84-86 Monte SS.

I thought the 305 vortec didn't flow as good as the 350's either. But in another post I was reading on here, some were going to use the v305 heads on a smaller 283/301 engine, reasiong being the v305's had smaller combustion chambers, which would work well with a flat top piston, :confused: .

Everything I had read to this point said 305 vortecs had the same ports just smaller combustion chambers compared to the L31 castings?

since the 350 Vortec head have the same ports as the cast iron B body LT1 heads, i'd think the 305 vortec heads "probably" have the same ports as the tiny 200hp 4.3 L99 they but in the 94-96 B bodies- which i would guess are probably better than any other 305 heads out there.
