Guy's, sorry for posting in 2 places but sort of need help, if I'm going racing tomorrow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Guy's, I just replaced the rotor, cap and module in my HEI. I cranked it up this afternoon and discovered a new strange sound. It sounds like I have a ticking lifter, but I think the sound is coming from my distributor. Anyone ever heard of something like this?

Regards,

Best way to tell if it IS the distributor would be to use a long screwdriver live a Stethescope (noise rod, you know what I'm getting at). Perhaps the new rotor is contacting the Cap's points? wich would wear down pretty quickly...

Or could it be a lose spark plug wire causing a "zapping" sound, much like a bug zapper?

Just idle it WAY WAY down.

Another thing to consider is the counter weights for the mechanical advance. maybe something with it broke and is slapping the cap?

Good luck.
I can't believe you race that purdy car. :D

You might want to take the cap off and inspect where the cap fits to the distributor. It only takes a little bit of plastic flashing to keep the cap from fitting all the way down. Had that happen and it made a clicking just like you described.
