Got an 3 wire alt. from 86 monte carlo.

I've read that you can turn a 3-wire alt in to a 1-wire is this true?

So the #1 goes to the gen light and the #2 goes to the batt terminal on the alt.?

Is this what I think is what helps the alt excite?

Do you have to use a jumper wire to make 3-wire work?

The one wire is a self exciter, so is the #2 terminal the exciter for the alternator?

So all i need to do is jump the #2 terminal to the BATT on the back of the alt., then wire from the back of the alt. to the battery? Is this correct?

Sorry for so many questions, I just want to make sure I get this right as I am still learning, and at the bottom of my cash pit and wits?

So what, am I any closer to getting it?

the car does not have the factory wires, and i am using after market gauges.

Why not wire it as a 3-wire. See the post below, Greg has provided a nice schematic of the wiring.

Or you can wire as a 1-wire, you're correct on how to wire, then come back later and make a post like this one.

We're talking about 1 more wire to do it correctly, shouldn't be that tough.
