: Barnfind value
vic2tric May 21st, 08, 2:57 PM I picked up a 1969 Chevelle Malibu last Friday. It's been sitting for 18 years. 53,000 original miles. Still rolls. The body has some light surface rust but no holes. Quarters are in great shape as is the frame and trunk. There are three dents from the doors back. None are bigger than one inch in diameter and are less than 1/4" pushed in. The windshield is cracked but all the rest of the glass is good. The car is 100% complete and the motor is not stuck. Has a posi, ps and that's it. Original motor, tranny ect. After taking the carpet out the floor has no rust on it at all and has the original paint that still looks good. I am planning on a full restoration. I have done 2 cars this way in the past 2 years. Was $3000 a good price?
vic2tric May 21st, 08, 5:15 PM Thanks,
I'm new to this site but belong to a few others. I look forward to contribuiting and getting info here.
obseSSed May 21st, 08, 6:08 PM Looks like you got a good deal. I paid $1400.00 for mine in 85 with similar body condition and a junk motor...but it was an SS. The way things are going, finds like that are hard to come by nowadays.
Freddy Mercado May 21st, 08, 9:04 PM You stole it. Very nice car.
yann396 May 22nd, 08, 4:24 AM nice car dude! look like very solid.
oldtimebaseballfan May 22nd, 08, 10:09 AM Hello and welcome Tim. Glad to see the flag waving.
The malibu is my type of find. I like original cars. Good luck on the project.
Are you going to keep it stock?
Dean May 22nd, 08, 10:57 AM Welcome to the team Tim.

Which engine does it have?
Where ya' from?

Morin69ss396 May 22nd, 08, 11:08 AM If it's not rusty like you said it's worth that money all day long !! Is it a 307 car ?
Bow_Tied May 22nd, 08, 1:12 PM Welcome to Team Chevelle Tim :waving:
Post more pics!!!! :D

You stole that car!!! Great find and even better deal!! Congrats!
vic2tric May 22nd, 08, 10:50 PM Hi and thanks. The car is a stock 350 with posi. I am going to do a concourse restoration. I generally do frame off rotisories. The only rust is in the bottom of both fenders just behind the wheel. It's not alot so I will weld in new pieces and lead over the patches. I may stoke the 350 to a 383.

1badss396 May 23rd, 08, 1:42 PM Welcome to the site and excellent find and price.
bdc1013 May 24th, 08, 2:36 AM very cool... amazing there's still cars and trucks laying around in trees and fields untouched.
vic2tric May 26th, 08, 1:19 AM Well we drained the oil, changed plugs, cleaned the carb and started the motor today. The tranny worked as wel. All we did was change the fluid and filter in th tranny. Unreal. the radiator still holds fluid. It it wasn't for the brakes we probably would have drove it today. Tommorow we start tearing it down and stripping paint. I am picking up the rotissorie tommorow as well. This could get interesting. I need to patch the lower corners ofthe fenders and get a new trunk lid. It has an SS hood that came with it. Looks like the only body panel I neee dto replace will be the trunk lid. Damn I'm glad I bought this car. :)
Hey should I be posting to a different Forum instead of the Welcoming one?
Thanks
Jimmy P May 26th, 08, 1:32 AM Makes sense to post here since it's your first. Nice find! How did you locate and get this Chevelle? We always like to hear the 'barn find' stories to keep our hopes up and all.
Where are you located?
vic2tric May 26th, 08, 1:49 AM I have a friend who is into Mopars. He grew up in a small town in Wisconsin near the place where I got the car. He told me about this car. He' known about it for years. Since he is not into Chevy's he never gave it much thought. Last year he brought me some pictures of it. I contacted the lady who owned it and told her I would like to look at it. She agreed. My wife, grandson and I went to lokk at it. It belonged to her first husband. He passed away 16 or more years ago. About 6 months before he died he had the motor built up. It runs on race gas. She told me tha he used to put a $100 bill on the dash and bet people they couldn't grab it. She said noone ever got it.
Just before her husband passed away her sister-inlaw made all new upholstery including seat covers, door panels and a headliner. She was a professional upholsterer(?) It's all been in storage since and I have it. It's just like new.
After he died she moved from Washington to Montana then to wisconsin. The car never was driven after he died. It was trailered to Wisconsin and set out near some trees where it sat for at least 15 years. The tires still held air.
The car has 52,426 original miles on it.
Some of her relatives wanted to buy it from her but she wouldn't sell it to them because it was too fast. So it sat. I guess I was the lucky one. I had a 1969 Chevelle in the same color when I was in High School.
I told her I would do a frame off retoration and when I'm done I would drive it back to her town so she could drive it and burn up some tires.
I live in Shakopee Minnesota
Jimmy P May 26th, 08, 12:29 PM Thanks for the story!!!! It's a good one and you've got an excellent car to start with. Can't wait to see some progress!

dmg1029 May 27th, 08, 5:41 PM I don't think you are too far upside down. Here's the deal of last week. 70, second owner, less then 40K miles.

In 1976 I rode in a motion L-88 Corvette and lost a bet because I couldn't grab the handle on the dash when the driver punched it! Unreal power and quite a rush for me as a teenager. The car was a '68 maroon Vette and shortly after met its demise with a hydro pole.

I've bee in cars like that and I have a 1968 Camaro that I would put money on the dash and would bet someone that they couldn't grab it. It's only a 350 but has 387 HP and 428 FT PNDS at 3200 RPM. It was put on a Dyno so I sure of the values. It has alot to do with the FT Pnds and the hook up. I suspect that when I'm done with the Chevelle I will be 50 and I'll put the same bet on it.
72 malibu Jun 3rd, 08, 12:01 PM /\/\/\/\That is a bad a@@ ride you got there! What is the Impala, '68?
vic2tric Jun 3rd, 08, 2:54 PM ////That is a bad a@@ ride you got there! What is the Impala, '68?
Thanks.
The Impala is a 68 with 86,250 original miles, I also have the 69 Chevelle, the 68 Camaro and just sold my 69 truck.
I also build bikes
68SS CLONER Jun 4th, 08, 4:56 PM Thanks.

And you ride a Polaris Sled ! You MUST be a good guy.!!!
glennslanaker Jun 4th, 08, 7:02 PM my transmission guy has a green '69, nearly rust free, 2 door hdtp. definitely doesn't need quarters or floor/ trunk, just some light bubbling around the lower quarter area and behind the front wheel wells. anyway, he's trying to get $3000 and can't sell it. if anyone is interested, i'll give you his number.
problem is you get upside down so quick on a malibu, even if the car is free. unless you can do body work and paint.
vic2tric Jun 5th, 08, 2:33 PM And you ride a Polaris Sled ! You MUST be a good guy.!!!
I have 5 Polaris Sleds and a 1968 Artic Cat Panther. Also an Allis Chalmers CA tractor I like toys.
I don't think I'll ever grow up. I always say you have to get older but you don't have to grow up.

the classic 100 doller bill on the dash.... my 52 year old father told me about this with his copo chevelle and A/gas falcon race car...that if i rode in it i couldnt grab a bill off the dash and neither could his friends back in the day....
well to one up his story i got a better one... my friend has a full street car mustang fox body coupe with a mini tub in it... 550ci race block all the good internals and heads to back it with a 106mm turbo on it... once again drive to and from the track street car... after the track we went onto the local new jersey turnpike from englishtowns raceway park and he put his foot into it with me riding in the passenger seat... let me tell you it looked like the enterprise going into warp speed... the lines became one and the trees on the side a blur.... it was nuts and believeeee me you could not grab anything off the dash but then again he dyno'ed 1400 crank horse at 30lbs on boost.... my highway pull was only at 12lbs... still insanely fast...
vic2tric Feb 1st, 09, 2:45 PM It's been a long time since I was here. Too much going on in my life, two grandkids, job all that stuff but it's good to check in again.
Chris R Feb 3rd, 09, 1:48 AM Any progress on the 69?
06megacab Feb 3rd, 09, 2:49 AM found mine about 10 years ago in pretty much the same shape. got mine for $300. just no motor or tranny. but it was a one owner. congrats on the find!!! are you thinking about keeping the same paint scheme?
vic2tric Feb 4th, 09, 9:51 AM Any progress on the 69?
Yes the frame is sandblasted, primed and top coated for the winter. I am going to sandblast it again in a couple of weeks and detail it. I am putting the body on the rotisserie this month and will start on blasting the body and undercoat removal at that time. I will be maching the block in March and ordering my alum heads. I'm going for 500+ HP in a 383 stroker. I will dyno it when it's done.
I see in a previous post you said there is a local Chevelle Club to join, is it Northstar Chevelle? I tried to join on their forum a few days back and have not received a response so I’m not sure I would want to join them if they can’t let me on the Forum. Maybe their just on vacation.
Let me know what club it is because I would be happy to join if they would let me.
Thanks
oldtimebaseballfan Feb 4th, 09, 11:05 AM Tim, glad to see you are working on it. Good luck with the project.
vic2tric Feb 4th, 09, 7:27 PM Tim, glad to see you are working on it. Good luck with the project.
Thanks I look forward to getting it completed. I had one in High School but back then it was just a old beater since it was less than 10 years old. Wish I still had that one it cost me $50 and was my daily driver. I also had 4 original torque thrust wheels on it.
Kent Miller Feb 8th, 09, 10:24 AM Wow, sweet ride...always cool hearing these stories. Good luck restoring it back to hear former glory.
