Hey Guys,
I just received some parts today that I ordered last week. I didn't order them from any of our sponsors. I know..........Shame on ME.

I open the box to look at the goodies inside and all I find is junk.
I bought a pair of rear ashtrays for my 70. There in "Genuine GM"
boxes. The chrome, if you want to call it chrome, sucked. Chrome in a spray can would look better then what was on those ashtrays.
The worst part about it is that they had the gall to charge me $44
bucks a piece for them. They were probably laughing their areses off when they got off the phone.

I also ordered a tilt wheel lever, and the shaft wasn't even chrome.

The seat adjusters were chrome but one of them looked like it was thrown across the warehouse floor, ran over with a hi-low and repackaged. I just can't believe people would sell stuff like that.
Needless to say, I'm repacking this junk and sending it back to where it came from. End of Rant.

I'll be calling our sponsor from now on. I've learned my lesson.

I think there were two or three type ashtray designs used in 1970. One was the chrome type, the other was another chrome type, but a bit larger and the other one was supposedly "brushed" chrome (and was also a large one) that had 'ribs' on the lid.

I read in a Musclecar resto mag about 20 years ago that GM "counterfeit" boxes were floating around. You can tell if that box is counterfeit if the letter "i" in the word Genuine is dotted with a round dot (o). If it's a legitimate box, the i is dotted with a SQUARE (.) dot), like this [i]. I'm unsure if that info is still correct and applies today.

My '70 came from the Factory with the largest chrome tray without ANY ribs, but the repo part that would replace it, because of it's size, is the large brushed chrome one, thereby making it an incorrect replacement. Side by side they are the same in size, but the designs and the finish are totally different from each other. The hinges, rivets and levers in my originals are quite tinny, and were possibly Made in Japan at that time.

One more thing..Always do your homework before ordering any repo parts so this doesn't happen to you again. I've ordered a bunch of parts from a couple of vendors since this past January, and I had to return only one item due to it's poor quality (a patch panel). Other than that, I'm satisfied with everything that I received thus far.

I got the "genuine GM" ash trays, too, from a very reputable seller. Problem isn´t the supplier (at least in case of these ashtrays) but the subpar quality of the GM repros. GM today isn´t GM of former days anymore. These ashtrays have been real GM parts but have been worse than many chinese repros I´ve seen before.
No need to say I´ve sent them back, too...

A quote from Classic Muscle. "Some reproduction parts are licensed by GM to be GM Restoration Parts, although this does not have much, if any,
impact on the quality of these parts. Just because a part is a GM Restoration part does not guarantee that it is the best
reproduction made."
