feedphillipnow Feb 17th, 05, 1:58 AM I mounted my starter tonight, the gear on the starter looks really sucked in, if that makes sence. When I put it on it was like ½" from the flexplate. Its a 72' BB Chevelle Starter, cheapie Reman. And yes the flexplate, tranny, engine, and torque converter are all bolted up properly.... so Im not sure. Maybe im missin' something. When you power it up gear moves forward to inguage flexplate.Try hooking a remote starter switch to it and turn it over to see whats going on. feedphillipnow Feb 17th, 05, 5:53 PM I'll try it tonight, I have a remote starter clicker which im going to use to set all the rockers and whatnot. I just thought the starter gear rested on the flexplate, it looks funny. But doing a first time ground up engine build you notice things and get paranoid/ curious tongue.gif OUChevelleSS Feb 17th, 05, 6:02 PM The starter gear does not ingage the flexplate at all times, only when you start it. Otherwise you'd have it in contact all the time and spinning up to 6,500 RPM whenever you're driving it and get on it...that'd burn out a starter pretty fast I'd think. feedphillipnow Feb 17th, 05, 6:09 PM Ahhhh, I knew that! =) Well kick butt then. And the Ceramic Full Length Headers came in today ;) sxty9shovel Feb 17th, 05, 9:24 PM I hear u pnut I put a new starter on the veler the other day and i was like man this is some bull crap the dang thing anit even aginst the flywheel what the.....after i already had it bolted so i was like well ill just try it and it fired up i was like well maybe thats how its posed to be.......lol motown/malibu Feb 22nd, 05, 12:31 PM did you buy that starter from nappa ??? and its got a front alum cone? if it looks wrong take it back and ask for another. most local kragens /nappa,s andpep boy,s even car quest keep you in the comp . if u bought it a while back tell them you just now got around to putting your new motor together and the starter is wrong most will exchange it ..
