Isn't there a K&N filter where it has its own base to seal around the carburetor rather than having to have a chrome or other container for it under the hood? I was going to get a K&N filter and the special top to fit my Q-jet and was just wondering how that worked, because it might look a bit tacky with a K&N top and a chrome air cleaner bottom. Thanks.

Are you asking if K&N makes a filter element for the bottom, like they do for the top?
I'm pretty sure they don't make that. From a performance standpoint, it may be a good idea because it would just draw in a bunch of hot air directly from the engine. The filter alone will flow enough air for the engine, let alone the filter top.
Personally, I would paint the air cleaner base black so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb when using the filter top.

There are polished K&N X-Stream air flow tops that look like chrome and should match the chrome bottom, or K&N sells complete X-Stream assemblys in black, polished or other colors. These have X-Stream top, filter and bottom Just check at Summit!
