As long as he is mature enough to handle driving an older type car (brakes, steering). Hopefully he will appreciate what he has.

well with gas at 4 bucks and climbing i would say buy a 4 cylinder car. but if this is his first (hobbie) car and not a daily driver i say go for it!!

i was 17 when my dad handed over the keys to his chevelle to me. it's the one in my signature. I always took care of her but in the beginnning i messed around a lot because i was young and stupid-blew the trans, diff, bent a valve, etc. But the thing was i eventually learned and ever since never ripped on her again-NEVER. But i also did all the repairs by myself so it was different.

I think he will eventually learn, if he doesn't already know what he has. These cars a DANGEROUS and easy to wrap around a tree, he should be fine though. It's a great learning experience.

sounds great. my first car was a 71 velle. at first it was something i tore up on the weekends to impress chicks. now i realize all the stupid things i did to that mint ride. i recently got it back and now i look at all the money i'll have to put into it to get it back, BUT it's a labor of love. good luck to the kid!
