can any one help me decode this? the number is 464697. and flywheel is L216?

Flywheel looks like a date code

Maybe Dec 21, 66 ?

maybe there is another number!? I found a bellhousing on ebay with same number as mine but it doesnt say much about it except that its a 11in.

very helpful! thanks! i bought my whole set up from a mid 70's corvette and they have a different flywheel I believe its a 153 tooth!? well anyways will these two work together because i cant get my starter to go in the housing.:confused:

Ther are two differenet starter noses, one is aluminum and the other cast (I think). Only one fits in a bellhousing, the other is for an automatic.

The 153 tooth flywheel is for the 10 inch clutch, the 168 tooth is for the 11" clutch. You will certainly want the 11 inch for a BBC and any performance SBC. The wrong bellhousing will not fit the larger flywheel. The standard 11" bellhousing casting # ends in 621, but 444 (more rare) and 697 will also work IIRC.

I recommend searching around in the transmission forum, lots of info there and guys who know this stuff better than I do. If you search in the trans forum, look for user DZAUTO - whatever Tom says about Muncies and bellhousings you can take to the bank.

well i talked to my nephew today who owns a machine shop and he told me that the corvettes take a different flywheel!? he has one in his dyno room and he told me to come get it and see if that works! if not i will be back asking more questions!:thumbsup:
