Ok guys I need help from the experts.
I want to take a 3400# car to the 10's or as close as I can get with my setup.
Hi compression BBC 427 bored .060 over

4.310 bore
781 heads (worked) or (dart iron eagles 308cc)
12.35:1 compression (zero decked using .04 head gasket)

3400# car (may be about 200# lighter)
4:33 or 4:56 gears (29 inch tall tires)
400 turbo trans

I don’t want to spin past 7500
I wan't to stick with a solid ft cam ($$)
If a solid roller would make a big difference I'll give it a try.

Do a search here for racer1320's, (Ed's), "BSE" BB engine combination and I think it may just do what you want..

I think he has moved on from it but even if it is outdated as posted, it will still get down the strip big-time!!

71NOVA,

My suggestion? a Lunati 402B1LUN. It is 296/304 at .020, 263/271 at .050, .630/.630 valve lift, and 108 LSA. It puts 3200-lb 402s into the 10.60 range with 8" converter and stiff gears. Any 441-cid BBC with over 12:1 should thunder with it.
It needs a good fuel system. The 1st 402 I ran it in went from a 10.96 to a 10.68 when I convinced them to use 2 Holley Blues.....

Thanks UDHarold,

Should I stay with the 781 heads and get a good port job? or go with the Dart iron eagles (308's)
The intake will probably be a Victor jr.

What would be considered stiff gears? 4:56?

4.56 with a powerglide/trans brake deal.3800 chip
i would be inclined to stick with a 4.33 or 4.11 if your going to use the T-400.
I personally would prefer to set up with the glide, my experience has been cars tend to run a bit quicker and more consistent. smile.gif
