I'm j/w.... are moly rings made of chromeoly (sp?)? I can't remember who told me this, but I was told that moly rings would/will be broken in on a new engine by the time you are done with the cam break in. I'm just curious because i'm going to call and find out what type of rings were in the rebuild package that I bought, and if they were moly then I (i'm selling the car) can tell a buyer that they really won't need to break in the new rings.

Also, what other types of materials are piston rings made of? Is one better than the other?

Thanks in advance guys

Moly rings are made of iron and have a shallow groove of molybdenum on the face of the ring. For more information go to google.com and type in moly compression rings and you will get links to ring manufacturers information pages.

Ther's cast-iron, Chrome faced cast-iron and Moly faced cast-iron rings.

NO chrome-moly rings b/c I'm guilty of calling them that before I learned better here several years back..
