My 66 wont go into 1-2 half the time and will not go from 3-2 running or not, I half search here and other sites for an answer. I cut down a paint stick to stick into the shifter tightly to keep it in to neutral and adjusted the linkage but still having a problem with going into 1 and 2, it goes into 3 and 4th fine up and down shifting. any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, I did read that page yesterday, I should of mentioned that the shifter is new and the problem was there before replacing the shifter and I can put a 9/16 wrench on the 1-2 nut and shift the trans. The trans is a m20 out of a 68 vette.
I dont think its in the trans, well i'm hoping not atleast, I feel i'm over looking something.

Check clutch adjustment. If it isn't releasing fully it can make it hard to shift.

Yup,just what Dave said,try adj more clutch release before going any deeper as that could be the issue.
