I have a 69 chevelle that I am restoring, It was an original 307 Sb with a powergluide tranny. I have a BB 402 that I am putting in it. My question is I have read that the PG tranny would not hold up to the BB motor, so my neighbor has a friend that wants to trade me a 350TH for my PG tranny, He races cars, I just want to cruise and hit it every now and then. So is this a pretty good deal for me? I Have a 10 bolt rear, is there any way I can beef up the rear without changing it to a 12bolt which is expensive and hard to get?

you might have issues with the stock glides reliability but if its in good shape i doubt it and if you wanted to rebuild and up the torque capacity theres a whole aftermarket industry based on powergides. my issue would be that your car would probably have better drivability with 3 speeds. you will never have a problem with your rear on the street

YRS BACK CHEVY PUT GLIDES WITH 396/325HP & i believe 66-67ish vette's with 427/390hp too.
I believe you could also get a 409/340 hp with 1 4brl carb with a glide in early to mid 60's impalla's too.
So if your bbc is mild & isnt a ground pounder a stock glide thats healthy in good cond and not a 35-40yr old tired survivour with 150k miles on it i would think it would hold up just fine unless you abuse the crap out of it.

if you have a car that will see mostly street duty you would be happier with the way it drove. i would have someone who new what they were doing go through the trans and upgrade it for better performance and durability. not all 350's are the same; some were built for higher torque applications. its easy to upgrade during overhaul though. you will probably want a little firmer shift and you may want to change your full throttle shift rpm as well as make sure you have the correct speedo gearset.

I will have a guy go thru the 350 tranny, partial rebuild. I heard that the power gluide wasn't to good for the highway, Thats my main concern. I will put the car on the highway. I dont know if thats true or not?

they both have a 1 -1 ratio in high so as far as that goes it wouldnt make any difference. the 350 with the benefit of the extra gear would accelerate a little better in normal driving in stop and go traffic etc.the glide wouldnt be a bad choce either. if you want the ultimate trans for what your doing you should consider an overdrive trans like a 700 or 200r4 with a 373 rear

Good choice becasue you will be much happier with the 3spd over a glide, thats for sure.
