i recently swapped my intake makifold gaskets and when i tryed to crank the car back up it turns over super quick (it usually turns over pretty slow) the belts spin really quick too. it sounds like it has no compression. i checked for spark and i am getting spark. i haven't tryed a compression or leakdown test yet, but am probably doing that today if time permits.....is there anything anyone can think of other than checking for compression? TIA

p.s. fuel is not the problem either....i checked the fuel lines and filter and carb, they were all fine.

sheetmetal-maybe i did? i put an arrow on the distributor facing the firewall and when i stuck it back in all i did was face the arrow back towards the firewall. and i forgot to mention before that i swapped lifters while i had the intake off too. Thanks

It sounds like the timing is retarded. Try advancing it.

its hte lifters, had hte problem when trying to start my 350 after adding cam/intake/carb/valve springs/headers. The lifters were too tight so it would just turn over quickly, and it was impossible to turn the engine over by hand, losen them up a few times, and it should start right up.

i'll try adjusting the timing and loosening the lifters....thanks!
