Any good? Experiences? I have had some poor customer service lately so I am considering trying another company. But I want to know your experiences with the product. If you bought a converter, was it a good piece and a correct match for your setup? Thanks
By the way--I will be getting a 8" treemaster MRT that flashes 4800-5200 for my setup. At least that is what they want to sale me.

I'm running an 8" MRT Treemaster. It flashed to 4200 behind my old 389 RWHP(~480-500HP) - 383 SBC. It is very driveable and efficient. The customer service has been VERY good on repairs for both my converter(trashed a transmission) and ATI damper(needed a new hub for a new crank). Both were turned around in a couple of days.

I can't comment on set-up personally as I had it set-up for a new combination that I have yet to run and just "got by" with the set-up I was running. I would say they seem to be within 300-400 RPM of desired stall at worst.

TNT, You might want to drop the stall speed a few hundred RPM as the 8" ATI - MRT that we had behind our 481" seemed to have quite a bit of slippage. Average seems to be 800-900 RPM if your motor makes good power. It always worked good but just slipped a lot on the top end.

ATI converters are defently top quality, if not the best in the industry.
1.55 60ft off the footbrake with a pump gas 385 in front of a 10" ATI treemaster.
Street Legal, Street Driven, and Bracket raced.

I suggest you talk to Charlie Plott, Charlie Plott is the guy i was refered to by Ed Bigley, and charlie's customer service is awsome!

Converters maybe good but so far nothing but problems with my order and customer service. Therefore order is canceled. Ordering from Transmission Specialites now. Thanks for all of the replies though.

I like mine.

Been consistant since day one, even lasted through one broken tranny.

Update - other problems occurred with ATI - never could send me the correct bolt pattern. So I ended up going with transmission specialties. Salesman named Paul. Turns out he had worked at ATI for 16 or so years. Real nice guy. Sent me a 9" 4600 stall and told me to change my shift points. Went to track today. Had to use 26x10 MT slicks that were 3yrs old and have MANY runs. To early to buy my new set. My goal was to run a 7/0 index class. So I figured that if the car would run in the 7.05 range then the new slicks would take care of the rest.

60' time - 1.51 spinning!
1/8 mile - 6.99 at 98 mph!

I think he did a good job with my converter. Funny thing is it is very streetable (since this is a street car) and it is strong enough to handle nitrous or transbrake. Just thought I would update everyone.

I have been running an 8" ATI Treemaster behind the 414 for a couple seasons. It worked very well with good ET and mph, 60' too. My ONLY complaint was it's poor efficiency. By my calculations, it was slipping between 11 to 12%. Pretty bad for a top quality race converter. Charlie was hesitant to make any changes to the converter as he felt the short stoke was likely sensitive to a converter being too tight and felt any gains in efficiency may cause the motor to be pulled out of the power band on the shift and slow the car down.

I recently had that converter reconfigured for the new longer stroke 454 with higher compression. I plan to run the converter most of this season and see how it works in both on track performance, but also efficiency. I am seriously considering sometime this season istalling a dual channel recording tach to monitor true slippage. I'm also seriously considering testing a different brand of converter just to be able to gauge how this one is working. I've got 2 or 3 manufacturers on my list to consider with a swap.

I originally had a trans specialities 10" 3500 street stall. After a lot of tuneing the car ran a 7.16et at 95.5-96mph. Paul told me that he was sure it was slipping badly. (Since it was a cheap converter $250 new!) He told me he would build this one to work with the car. When I installed it, drove it on the street. It felt tighter than me 10"! I was scared it would not be right. It footbraked the tires at 2800rpm. Drove like a charm. So I lagged it in third at 25mph. Floored it- car started pulling good. When tach hit 4500-4700rpm, car got sideways and started spinning the tires hard. I called Paul he said perfect. He also said that once I raced it to call him and he would make any changes necessary to get me in the 6.90's. I told him I was shifting at 6800rpm. He told me to change my shifts to 6200 1st to 2nd, and 6500 rpm 2nd to 3rd. I tried it today with the old tires and poof I am 0.17 seconds faster already. I installed a set of caltracs right out of the box. Have not adjusted them yet.
Trans Specialities has my vote. I am not dogging ATI by no means. Just had alot of trouble with my order. Glad I switched though.

I have not tried ATI so I can't comment on them.

I had good references that recommended Trans Specialties five years ago.....5 years of using their converters I am very happy....I had great results with the 10" unit I had for my 468 motor and the 9" mech diode unit I am using now for 3 years.
