hi everyone, i'm going to be starting a 383 buildup soon for my 72 Camaro RS.
Parts List:
-350 block bored .060 over (walls checked out thick enough
-Vortec heads (from scoggin dickey modified to handle more lift)
-about 9.5:1 compression
-Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
-Holley 750 (3310)
-Lunati 301B3LUN cam:
288 296 advertised duration
231 239 duration @.050''
0.485 0.507 (lift with 1.5 rocker)
108 102
DCR comes out to aroung 7.5:1
so what kind of power can i expect from this combo? any ideas on what it will run, the car is about 3500-3600lbs and has 3.73 gears with a 3000 stall in a TH350 with trans go shift kit.
thanks,
chris

I would say its a solid 375 horsepower motor. It coulda done a little better with some light port work in the heads and more like 10:1 static comp, but I think it will be plenty strong as is. It should be worthy of low 13's for sure and I can see it in the 12's without too much effort. I would consider trying that cam out run a few degrees advanced as well. Run it the way its supposed to be at first for a comparison, but considering that you can stand a little more static comp(and dynamic) comp with that particular setup, it wouldnt hurt to try. My guess is that it wont hurt MPH much at all, but it will liven up the 60 footers a tad. Just a guess though, but thats why its good to try it out both ways just to see for sure!

Close to what I will wind up with in my wagon. The shop building mine will go with more head work compression and a little smaller cam I think. Check into the Quick Fuel carbs, every person who bought one loves them.

I've heard you have to be careful when porting vortecs, its hard to improve on a good thing graemlins/thumbsup.gif Use flattop pistons and you're at 10-1+
