I'm detailing the differential case on my 69, what is the correct color of black to use and can I buy it in a spray can?

Stock is gloss black and Eastwood's Chassis Black works very well.

Everyone told me gloss black is what its supposed to be but I think it would look stupid all shiney so I used Satin black (available at home depot) its half way between gloss and flat black and looks really good.. i havent seen any new trucks lately with gloss black rear ends..

I'm with Mike. I just came in the house from finish installing a 12bolt posi in my wife's 70 conv. Myself, I use Krylon semi-flat or high heat black (1613 or 1614), which is close enough to make me happy. The older I get, the more I like that clean painted fresh factory look (but with lots muscle under the skin).
