I installed my headers today on my freshly rebuilt 408(if that's what a 402 bored .30 over is?). I had picked up a set of Flowmaster Scavenger Collectors along the way but wondered if I got the wrong size for my engine. The headers are 1.75" primaries with 3" collectors which I already cut off. The Flowmaster Scavengers will slide over the header primaries but the outlet is only 2.75". Will that .25" of an inch hurt or restrict my engines breathing ability(performance) or shouldn't I worry? Probably won't ever be a track car but you guys sure do make it sound tempting!!

Leck Kill. Pa....hmmmmm...out between Pitman and Rebuck? I'm from Minersville.LOL
You're in a good spot. Close to Beaver, Numidia, and the Grove. I like Numidia, my home track.
There's several people on the board running those collectors. I don't have any experience with them in a street application but we use Performance Welding headers on a 311" C/ED and they use a VERY narrow venturii neckdown collector. They picked the torque up on the dyno and the car went about .03 faster with them on. When you consider that it goes across the finish line in excess of 10,000 rpm., that small venturii collector didn't seem to hurt at all!

Your car will run better at the track with the smaller collectors, which scavenge better in the midrange. Another effect of the 421 collectors is to lengthen the primary tubes, which helps with the midrange scavenging from about 4000-5500 rpm, probably where you spend the majority of your time. On my 406 I run 1-5/8" x 40" primaries with 2-1/2" collectors.

Thanks for the reassurance guys. There is just so many things to think about before firing this thing up!

Randy: You got it! Nestled right between the metropolis of Pitman and the city of Rebuck!! What made you move to Texas? Hope you're not a Cowboy fan! LOL I've been to Numidia once about 10 years ago just as a spectator. Maybe someday.......

Chris: I'm finally getting close to firing my engine up! Been awhile and it's way overdue. Was hoping to get it broke in before the white stuff starts flying but doesn't look good. Wish we'd have about 10 more weekends like this one but I don't think it's happening.

onovakind: Probably won't see the track ever but it sounds like you do have some fun out there on the other coast!

Wolfehunter,
I moved out of Schuylkill Co. in 1982. I was one of those coal haulers and my girlfriend worked in the office of a breaker in Middleport. We both lost our jobs on the same Friday and I had $1500.00/month truck and trailer payments. We moved here with 6 other friends to haul gravel. They all moved back in 3 months but I stayed.
Now I have a trucking co. with 11 trucks and she is a broker for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter so the move was good for us.
We still have a house in Minersville and tons of friends(gearheads) and we come up every year for the Palmerton cruise, Frackville cruise and Pottsville cruise. We'll be up for Thanksgiving week also.
Try Numidia next year. It's a great track with excellent amenities and decent traction. Freindly people, also. I head straight there every time I get back to Minersville.
