sheetmetal (name?), I'm not sure, but I would almost bet that you'll get an email from Dave Ray on this one. He's a guru on that stuff.

On a side note, check out my post in the Cruiz-In Forum. We're having a little get together in Houston on the 13th. We'd love to have you. Feel free to post on that thread with any questions or shoot me an email at:

Dave,
I would not use more than 1 gasket. They compress too easily and you will have more problems. If the distributor is not going all the way down to the intake, it will take more than that anyway. I would want the distributor to be "up" at least .060" from bottoming out on the oil pump drive. You might be able to find a valve spring shim that will fit and allow you to get the spacing you want. A collar would be the correct way.

MSD calls for .010-.030 clearance on their pro billet distributors. The directions are a little fuzzy, but I believe this is in addition to the gasket. The gasket is prolly .030 which would put it near Bill K. estimate. I've got mine at .045 and the first bronze gear lasted 4 years (5k street miles and ~100 passes) before it was showing considerable wear.

the gear looked a little odd to me as it was brand new (300 miles) i took it to my engine builder and he said it looked ok, then i noticed the height issue when i went ot put it back in. im gona see if my mallory dist can be fitted with a slip collar. does this stuff ever end? Dave
