I changed my plugs today, and found that #6&8 were coated with black soot. All the others were normal.

Now ,the motor sounds and reacts fine.No missing, spitting ect.Wheather this is related or not,a day or two ago,I noticed what sounded like a valve tap from that area or a exhaust leak. For me it's hard to tell one from the other.Would one or the other have anything to do with the black plugs? The sound is most noticable at a constant cruising rpm. When I get on it alittle really don't hear it as much.
Hope some of you could help............Thanx

well i do know that if its ticking like a lifter or rocker arm is ticking then they need tightning and if they quit and then come back and u keep titing them and they start ticking again then the cam is going flat and flat lobes will cause soot up in certain pistons cause its not opening the exhaust valve up....

just my 2 cents   graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Would a blown head gasket do the same? Just grabbing here.........

I recently checked my plugs and found that #8 was all black and sooty while the other 7 looked fine. I undid the header, and saw traces of an exhaust leak on the gasket. I tightened up the bolts on #8, took the car out for a ride, and the plug cleaned up. A slight exhaust leak could be your problem

Depending on the intake, sometimes a small intake leak or a bad pcv can cause two cylinders to oil up... But mine were oily wet. I didn't run it long enough to foul.
