My gas gauge reads very full all the time. Following the advice in another thread I checked ground on my gas tank. I connected a meter between the actual tank and frame and had continuity. I took the the other wire off and connected it to ground which made the gauge drop down to empty.

Does this mean its the sending unit? Other ideas?

Sounds like the sending unit because the guage is responding.

No. Having continuity between the tank and frame doesn't make any difference. Did you check the ground wire? Make sure it is bolted to clean bare metal.

I took the ground wire off. Ground down to bare metal on all surfaces. Put it back together and Viola.... Still didn't work. So I just ordered a new sending unit. Should be here mid week. Need to drive it until the tank runs dry!

The sending unit itself has to be grounded by the wire.
Maybe it isn't making a good connection where it connects to the unit.

The sending unit itself has a ground on top of the actual sending unit.

Changed the sending unit and everything is working again. Thanks for all the help.
