Not To Long Ago I Installed A Art Carr Trans Brake In My 400 Turbo. It Worked Well For A While Then It Would Hesitate Before The Brake Would Engage. This Slowly Got Worse Until It Stopped Working Period. I Also Lost Reverse. Now I Called Art Carr They Told Me To Put A Pressure Guage On It And Check It, The Pressure Was Good In Idle And In Forward Gears , But Would Drop Way Low In Reverse And When I Engaged The Trans Brake, Art Carr Said I Lost A Seal Somewhere........... Any Ideas Which One? The Trans Has The Basic Mods , Alto Reds, teflon Seals, Kilgore Low Gear Set. I Have Also Noticed My Direct Drum Clutches Always Seem To Burn Slightly. I Know I Read Something On Here About How To Fix That But Cannot Find The Thread, something about using stock clutches instead.

As far as the reverse problem, ...maybe the o-ring in the band servo for the plantaries? There's only about 100 differant things it could be. As for the clutches, I usually set the clutch assemblies loose to keep them from burning. It makes the trans shift harder, too. I set them up with, I think, .060 clearance. That's alot, I know, but it works well. The tighter you set them up, the more likely they are to scorch. If you have a case saver in there, but didn't machine the case first, there's the problem. The case saver is super thin, but just thick enough to cause a problem. Ya' gotta tear it down and look around to see what you can see.
