I know they are required to run 10.99 or quicker, are drum explosions due more to rpms or just raw power? I don't think I've ever seen a car have a drum explode at the track. Does anyone make one that fits both a th350 and 400?

Bob,can't comment on the drum explosion part, but Hughes Performance does make sheilds..but the part #'s are different for a TH350 and a TH400

I noticed that Chris, seems most are transmission specific, you'd think if it fit a 400 it would fit a 350. I guess I'll just have to decide which trans to go with and have Jake build a bullet-proof 350 :D

Bob,

This is what you need if you are going to use the stock trans tunnel.

Yes, there are blankets. They are universal. Somewhat of a pain to install.
Stroud makes them, Jegs has them, $125.
The shield shown by the others, the CSr, is $300.
I use the blanket.
None of the other shields will fit in the stock tunnel.

I would use the CSR composite shield myself in a space-limited situation....I am not too keen on blankets as they will also hold in heat unnecessarily. If you have the room, just use the aluminum style shield on the trans and the steel flexplate shield. Or, use a JW UltraBell and aluminum trans shield.

We used the CSR shield on our powerglide equipped S10. It was a pain to install in that chassis, but I'm sure it would be a little easier in a Chevelle.

Once we got it in, it was definitely the best solution to the problem. I plan on using one on the T400 in my Chevelle.

I never thought about the blanket holding in heat, but that's a good point. I assume the shield is lighter too, especially after the blanket gets some trans fluid in it.

what makes it a pain to install the blankets???

sounds easier then pulling tranny to put a shield on it.

seems like you could run coat hangers around the tranny to pull the blanket into place....or em i missing something here.....might want to explain what it takes to put one in.....

im not pulling my tranny out to put a shield on it......just put everything back in....lol...dont want to pull it out again....lol
