It seems the yellow spring is what a lot of people swap to when tuning, but Holley doesn't sell just the one spring. You have to buy the whole kit to get one spring. Can you shorten the other springs and make them work like a yellow spring? I'm thinking, depending on what color spring you start with, you can cut 1, 2, or whatever number of coils to have the spring rate match the yellow spring.

Cutting the OE springs used to be common practice back in the day... mostly in the 1960's. The problem is you never know what exactly what your cutting is going to do... It will change the overall height and spring rate but that may or may not do what you want them to do.... I have changed springs many times while tuning and sometimes going lighter is not always what you need.... AFAIC that spring rate chart that you see in catalogs is misleading at best .There are way to many variables you have to deal with.Unfortunatly trial and error is the only real way of determining what type of secondary action your set up needs.... And haveing several springs to play with is generally an advantage.

Holley doesn't recommend cutting springs.

The whole set of springs are less than $8.00 through Summit.... Your local speed shop will have them and all you have to do is skip lunch once to afford them... tongue.gif ;)
