Hey all have any of you ran an edelbrock cross ram on a big block just the look of it under the hood gives me willies and i was wondering if one would work well on my new 502? I can get one at a resonable price and thought something different may be cool but i wont use it if they dont work well thanks Ralph.

Are you talking about the intake that mount's two AFB's across from each other??

I ask b/c if this is the 2x4 intake you are talking about, I think it needs a hose or something piped between both carb. banks phlenums so that they balance one another, (the phlenums aren't connected so don't balance each carb's. suck signals!!)... Otherwise I figure it's a good one..

But I will say it is old style setup AND you will probably run better with a good modern single carb. and matching intake. But I figure you know this anyway...

GO FOR IT!!!

Crossrams have a reputation of being notoriously difficult to get decient A/F mixture distribution on.
Many of old intakes...especially the old ones that dont have a removable top have runners placed at odd angles and shapes in order to fit all that in a small space....

Mopar had the most success with their factory crossrams on thier 413/426W both long and short rams and the 426 Hemi short ram.... But even these are difficult to dial in properly. They can make a ton of mid range power and they were THE manifold for several years prior to the advent of the Tunnle Rams...and the Tunnle Rams out powered the crossrams by a bunch...

Honestly if power is what you want/need a good single 4bbl would be better...and it's far easier to dial in..... if looks are what you want/need then give it a try...They can run deciently... but you wont likely out power a good 1x4 bbl combo.

Its an early 80's intake, no removable top, carbs are offset side to side, guy claims he ran 2 500 cfm holleys on a 510cu big block its off cause he went to a blower.

That's the one I'm talking about and that if you look at it real close you will see that the phlenums aren't connected so they balance each other.. That's where the hose comes in I was talking about between the open area of the phlenum banks

And imho, (2) 500 AFB's is dandy on the intake..

IF YOU DRILL RIGHT DOWN THRU THE CENTER WITH ABOUT A 2" HOLE YOU CAN THEN INSERT A LAMP IN THERE AND MAKE NEAT LIGHT FIXTURE, THATS ABOUT THE BEST USE FOR THAT UNIT !!ROB...

Crossrams are definately '60's bitchin! Decorative use only vs any more modern intake. Like has been said already, if the two banks are not connected in some way there will be tuning issues aplenty. If you end up fabbing a bank to bank connector be sure to make it as large as reasonably possible.
