I got my chevelle with no tank, just straps and bolts/nuts. I bought a new tank and when I started looking at where to put the straps, I noticed two holes nearest the rear end.

There is a hump with two slots in it. I tried the slot closest to the front of the car, and that didn't seem to work, but the problem might be the angle that the strap is bent at.

I figured the best way was to install the straps, the move the tank forward, bending the straps, raise the filler neck, move the tank back into position, the secure the straps.

I didn't want to remove the bumper and rear cross member if I don't have to.

what angle should the end of the tabs be bent at?

will this method work?

Thanks, KarlJay.

I may have figured out the problem.
I'm trying to put the straps in so they go under the tank and the end bends into the slot. It looks like they might go into the first slot and out the second slot, then bend down to hold it in place.

Is this the right way?

Karl,
There are two bolts that hook into the slots.Should be a bolt hole in the end of each strap, head of bolt into slot, hole in strap on to bolt, retain with nut/washer.
