Installing a new engine harness in my 70 SS 396, 4 spd. Adjacent to the oil seding wire is a black wire with a small rubber boot. Can anyone tell me what it is for. It is not on the harness I am removing

Thanks

70 Velles have the T.C.S. system. Not sure of the color "Have to look at the drawing " This wire may go to the 4 speed, The 4th gear shift arm has what looks like a " Back up light switch " For the factory TCS,
a wire plugs into this sender on your 4 Speed.
Years ago I thought it was a back-up light switch, Then my buddy said " Why a back-up light switch on fourth gear?
This may be where the wire should go??????????????

Thats another issue. Mine is close to original but missing some things. I have the original manifold but not the TCS system. I saw the TCS in the wiring diagram. Are the components still available?

I also have a Hurst shifter, I will need to look for a connection.

What does the TCS do

Thanks

Joe

TCS stands for Transmission Controlled Spark. It limits vacuum advance in the lower gears and is used for emission reasons. Unless you are doing a 100% correct resto, it is not needed.

Joe, it;s probably for the brake combination valve on the frame.

The brake switch gets a tan wire. The black wire is for the TCS.
