I'm finally going to start on my 1966 Chevelle that I I have owned since I was 16 (I'm 34 now). Unfortunately I haven't touched the car in 10 years because of college etc... Hoping to bring her back home next week. Its currently at my parents 50 miles away. Looking forward to checking out the site, getting some good advice, and helping others where I can :beers:

Took this picture today while I was there

Welcome! It looks like a pretty straight car to start with. My advice is to not make an SS clone out of it. There are not enough restored Malibus. Good luck!

I know the story, Kevin. Bought my 66 SS in 1991 but it wasn't until last November when I broke in the cam and wasn't until just this past February when it was driveable. I'm working now on getting it street legal so the fun can really begin.

You will find this is a great site. Post often with questions and especially with pics and you will learn everything there is about your Chevelle. In fact, because there is so much information available here, I have to guard against sitting on my butt too much reading stuff here instead of working on my car.

Looks like you have a great machine to restore. Along with many others, I will help when I can. Good luck and welcome!!!! Wayne

Welcome!

Looks like just a wash job and some new gas.

Good start for a project.

Great looking car the way it sits. Air up the tires, give her a wash and gas and go. Great looking start, wish mine was that straight.

I had a similar story.

Bought my '70 SS when I was 16 (1978).

Retired it in 1985.

Then did a frame off over the last 6 years and enjoying it again!

Good luck! I love the 66's too. Had one in the '70's also. Should have kept that one too!

Yours looks nice. Drop a 572 in her and be done with it. :D

welcome aboard. i have a near identical story to yours. i bought my 66 SS when i was 16 as well. i retired her around 91-92. well moved her from place to place for 12 years before i bought the current residence i have now. i have 2 garages so the one in the back would soon become its home. i totally revamped the back garage, electric, insulation, heat, etc. but ive been slowly doing a frame off on her. started about a year ago now. check out the pics its comming along.

i sure wish i had a start like you. although from what the guys are telling me mine wasnt bad compared to some here. anyway this is a great club, great guys, and great advice.

remember ask often and do it right. have fun with respect youll never go wrong. take care and good luck with that 66. ( agree keep it a malibu )

Thanks! I've been really impressed with the group here and signed up as a team member after the first couple of days (which I usually don't do so fast). Your 66 is really coming along...I saw the pics, but do you have a build thread on here? What motor transmission combo are you going with?
I so wish I had a big garage (right now I just have a one car garage without a lot of room. I lucked up last week and was told I could bring my Chevelle to a friends that has a lift etc... I just don't want to take up his space even though he says he's not using it.
