Hey there budget Chevy builders,,,,If you want to build a 350 on the cheap, I did this simple and cheap build. I have a 350 Goodwrench with 75K on it in my hot rod black 70 Chevelle. I installed these parts with a new roller chain,, used the Comp Cams XE 262 with Comp lifters (kit). I used the stock valve springs, small tube headers and a Edelbrock performer 600 carb and intake. Runs super strong and on the cheap too. Installed Flowmaster complete 2-1/2" exhaust, the car is a street animal and the cam "Gallop" is amazing. very crisp cam lope, and it even works with the stock converter! Beat that! I have under $500.00 in the motor and it runs low 14's which feels damn fast on the street and deals quite well at intimidating the rice burners and GT Mustangs.

I ran the XE262 for a couple of years in my 350, and it is a great cam. I bumped up to the XE268 hoping to go a little quicker, but the power difference is negligible and really the XE262 is a better cam for street driving. I wish I had left mine alone. Sounds like you have a nice combo.

I think your car will go quicker when you get it sorted out. I went 13.50's with a 350, XE262, 3.42 gears, and a 200-4R tranny.

I'm running that cam in a Vortec headed 355 in my '85 GMC pick-up. Very nice combo indeed!

I have the same cam and love it. Tons of low end an dhas a nice little lope to it. I run the 58cc corvette heads which gives it higher compression and is fun to drive. Stock converter is nice

great timing, we just took the elcamino to the track. stock 350 with intake and headers, ran a 16.34. Ive got a set of vortecs + air gap just got to pick a cam that works within the limits of the vortecs. jim
