: cam for a 406
jethro81z28 Oct 26th, 03, 1:50 AM Took car to the track ran 13.0 12.97 12.96 and best12.92 @106 with a 60ft@1.74 Aim running D.O.T. 265 60 15 with 15 pounds with a good burn out and still spinning about 10 to 15 ft at the start I have traction bars and sub-frames and a 3.73 posi. 700r The car seemed to get out of the hole good but run out of power in the upper RPMs (5500 to 6000) Aim considering changing my rear to a 342 and also my cam (282s comp) any suggestions will be considered
DEEBOO Oct 26th, 03, 9:40 AM I have basically the same setup and I talk to a few cam companies. Cam Motion, Lunati, Crane. I deciede to use Lunati/UDHarold cam.
Here are the specs, this is a solid cam and should be good to 6200rpm, however for a 400 I dont think you would need to turn that much rpm's to get your desire E.T. if its set up properly.
Cam: Grind: Solid Lunati/ (Recommended by Harold Brookshire)
280/284F10 .525/.530 Lift, 247/251@.050, 159/162 at .200, .560/.565 valve lift(1.6), Beats the Comp Cam 294S hands down. Pro-Street power with an extra 5* at .200"
2500-7000 RPM, Advance Cam 4* Degrees as Per Harold, .026" Valve Lash Hot, Adjustment Range: .018" to .030" Hot.
Hope this help:
David
jethro81z28 Oct 26th, 03, 10:47 AM DEEBOO I looked at that cam and almost went with it. I looked on the lunati sit and could not find it Do you know the part #
DEEBOO Oct 26th, 03, 11:40 AM This is a cam that UDHarold had at Ultradyne, He grind for Lunati but using his masters files. I just talk with him about it and we thought this would be the best cam for my engine. You probably would have to give HAROLD a call:

BigRed-L72 Oct 30th, 03, 5:56 PM ski-dwn-it...very nice performance!
How much for one of those injection setups, complete?
I didn`t notice your shift points, can you post them?
Silver69Camaro Oct 30th, 03, 6:34 PM Deeboo,

aubreyt213 Oct 30th, 03, 8:05 PM Yea, skidwnit, I know that vette is only 3350#s but still, how you making near 10 second passes on "only" 437 horses??? Thats pretty damn good.

ski_dwn_it Oct 31st, 03, 9:15 AM Guys,
My shifts are at 5200 RPM. This is a Lingenfelter Super Ram intake...the website I have in my signiture illustrates the buildup of the motor, and also has videos of the car running the first time out to the track earlier this season.
I have not got a 10sec pass yet...this weekend will be my last chance, and the weather is not looking real promising..looks like its going to be in the 70s...so I doubt I will obtain my goal with the car.
I assure you all, there are no power adders on the car. I race nearly every weekend, and do not pull funny stuff like that. I will be at Mason Dixon, MD on Sunday,,,should any of you be there and want to check it out. That is 437Hp at the wheels...the motor is putting out around 520-540hp and over 600ft-lbs.
We built two of these cars,,,my buddy with the other one has gone a best of 10.92@124...we can't figure out why his is a touch quicker. THe only real difference is the converter...he has a non-lockup TCI 3800 and I just upgraded mine from a 3200 Precision industries to a 4200 precision industries. Mine is lockup.
The weekend after is going to have some REALLY exciting results. I am testing out a single plane intake for a manufacturer, it's a victor Jr Single plane, outfitted with all the provisions needed to run my EFI equipment. I should have it in hand by tuesday...get it put on barring any unforseen problems, and then get it all tuned and ready for Saturday. They are telling me I will see 10.7s with this intake over the lingenfelter intake. I hope they are right, but with moving from 17" runner down to about 7", I think there will be a HUGE drop in low end, and a nice gain up top. However, I am not convinced just yet if the upper end gain, will be enough to overcome the low end loss.
Lets hope.

BigRed-L72 Oct 31st, 03, 3:04 PM Keep us posted!
Throw a ball park figure out to us on what a setup (induction wise)would cost.
I`m liking what I see.
I`m sure with the injection setup it drives ok? meaning more civilized than a comparable carb deal right?
ski_dwn_it Nov 3rd, 03, 11:22 AM Big Red,
if your talking about the Super Ram intake it was ~500 for the base (manifold) than another 700 for the runners and plenum. Then tack on another 2-300 for the fuel rail, 300 for the injectors, ~450 for the TB. You have about 3K just in the intake portion of it before your done.
Driveability of with EFI cars is unreal....cruises along like it was stock. AC works just as it did stock. Both Corky's and my car get 22mpg.. smile.gif
Its really the best of both worlds....If I showed you what you how you can fine tune each RPM range etc for fuel spark, Torque converter lockup, fan temps......ect you would fall over with amazement. Don't get my wrong though, they too have their demons, and there have been times I wanted nothing more than a good carb.
