Are 2.25 intake valves too big for a 6000-6500 rpm street/strip motor? 049 heads? 2.19's enough? I sent the heads off today, going to call and go over the whole combination tomorrow. I figure the bigger intakes might help low/mid lift flow.

Well, mr68 (Ray) had 215 heads with 2.25 intakes and 1.88 exhaust valves. He ran the 288/296 solid tappet and ran 11.20's at 120+ with a 4-speed. How do I know his valve sizes??? I bought his heads :D Going to swap my ported 063's with his and see what I can pick up at the track.

Thats the performance I'm looking for,,I want to knock a second off my current e.t.'s...solid roller in the .650 lift/.260 duration range...and headwork...all else pretty much the same.

I've got 2.19 and 1.88's in my 049's but I haven't got the engine together yet. A friend of mine runs 11.2's easily with a ported set of 781's and the same size valves with a 9.5-1 468 with a 292H cam in a 79 cutlass. My engine should be a bit better with 9.8-1 and a solid cam with a 200hp shot. We'll see graemlins/beers.gif

I run 2.25 / 1.88s in my 049`s and they run great in my 6500 rpm set up. Go for it!

They are not too big if done properly.
Done properly you will increase low to mid lift flow. ;)
Done improperly you will lose low to mid lift flow :(
The larger the bore the more the engine will like them because of the unshrouding it affords.
