This engine looks very intriquing, a little expensive but interesting none the less. Any guys out there who runs one on the street or strip? graemlins/beers.gif

Got one - it wraps quick and cranks out about 500hp on pump gas, although we have not dyno'd rwhp yet. Set up for the street setup - reverse dome high silicon SRP's, 5.85 h-beams, eagle forged crank (G&G di a spectacular knife edge on it), comp cam hyd roller, 220 aluminum heads, victor, 870, MSD HEI.

Got a TH350 and Currie 3:70 behind it. No timeslips yet - still working on getting it all buttoned up. But I'm really happy with the way the engine turned out. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to use a world products block, but the guy that built the engine prefers Dart platforms and worked with the small block from wp as a favor to me. Also, I think I would have been better off with AFR heads, but again, the heads were beyond my control as well.

Bought a 427 small block from WP, turned out to be crapola after 200 miles. We rebuilt it as a 434. Next time - I'm going GM 572 for a street application - not even going to think twice about that one. But, the 434 is near bulletproof so we'll have a lot of fun with it.

Mike,

I've been mouthing about making a standard deck height 4.625" bore x 4.375" stroke = 588" BB motor so what is your thoughts on that size??

I want about the biggest stealth 396 motor I can get fairly easily, that's all.

Rods would be right at 6.44" long with needed custom pin height pistons for about like .025" down in the hole..

PS., I'm afraid to go a 4.50" stroke in a standard deck block so settled on the 4.375" stroke...

PDQ,
friend of mine who owns a Monster truck has a 572 in it with a STD deck block I believe.

Bowtie block.

Just went to San Antonio to see him a couple of weeks ago.

What do you guys think about a Rodeck(aluminum)block 430 with SB2 heads?

As Tootie, from "Car 54, Where Are You" would say, "Oooh, Oooh, Francis! Now that's a motor......

pdq67

PS., either them or the "mini BB, splayed valve" heads??

The SB2 are pretty much BB heads for the SB lol. I'll get some pictures for you guys. We've got the valve covers that you can spray the oil through.

Done a few of them.
Two were with the Dart tall deck "Rocket" blocks & it is definitely the way to go!! No small base circle cam, room for rods, crank etc. Nice piece.
The other was a stock 9.025 deck World block.
These were all street engines.
Both the tall blocks used standard SRP's & 6.200 rods.
The std deck used Oliver 5.85 rods & custom pistons. It was a pain in the ass compared to the tall decks.
Two had AFR 210 heads & one had Brodix 215 M2's & were between 10.0 & 11.0
compression. Two with hyd rollers & one with a solid.
I am currently doing another one (not sure on size yet, 3,875 or 4" stroke) with an aluminium Brodix std deck block which should be a pretty nice peice :D

pdq - as we have all heard more times than we can count - cubic inches save lives - or maybe it's sanity that they save - can't remember......

Had I gone with the widely available, off the shelf GM502 crate, I would have had my 500hp and then some...all in a few short weeks. But noooooo....I had to get all egocentric about how cool it would be to fly the 427BB fender/grill badges with a 427 sb under the hood. What a really trick fake-out, Mike! It's two years later and I'm STILL in the "final stages", which I'm told can go on for 10-12 years more.

588? Why stop there when you can get a 904 from Shobeck or whatever their name is? Hey, I got an extra $85K laying around - lemme shovel some bills in a box and mail it to you.

Seriously, I'd be proud to get my doors blown off by a 588. In the future, it's all about cubic inches for me. Also, I think Mr. Mobley makes some very relevant comments about rod length, stroke, and diminishing returns pushing the sbc envelope.

One thing that Ive heard about the SB434 is that... because it places the pin up higher on the piston it accelerates the cylinder wall wear due to the pistons rocking in the bore. Any truth to this?

No, the SB2.2 heads are NOT SB, "mini BB splayed valve" jobbers by no stretch!!

Mike, I was asking about if you thought I would have problems with too much piston cylinder bore sideloading stuffing the 4.375" crank in a standard deck block, That's all..

Not my thingy is bigger then your thingy...

I get this "yes, it's fine" from both W/P's and Dart's block people but I haven't read where such a combination really has been beat on.. Then I also get this yes, we can make a piston for it, but it will put alotta sideloading on the cylinder so just how gutsy are you??? From several of the piston guys..

AND you don't know how much I wished that the motor W/P's sold you coulda been ran like you wanted it to instead of the "balls-out" loose race-motor sucker they sent you thinking that it would do you nicely until it blew up b/c you were, "WHAT, RACING IT!!!"...
