Hello,
I am looking to buy a Chevelle as my daily driver. I found one that I think would work in a distant state(NY). I am on a very limited buget. How can I make sure that it is a good car before I go out there and spend all that money on transportation. Is It absolutely nescessary to go out there or could I get a trusted person to check it out for me? Thanks, Jeff
PS. What are some good tests to make sure that the car is in good health?

I have had several people here look at cars for me that were just great, post you need help and put the location in the title. I have had them look in Indiana, Texas, Ohio and Virginia. I would much rather have a chevelle guy look at one than someone who is not aware of the problem areas of specific year cars.
IMO your budget should include YOU inspecting the car in person. Even if you have to utilize Greyhound to get there. If you have some one look at the car for you there are things that you may see you don't like about a car. How much can a bus ticket cost you to get to NY? Heck since you are talking about it for a DD you could then drive it home. I have had folks look at rigs for me but it was a precursor for me to see if it was worth my time to go look at it myself. Since you sound inexperienced about checking a car's health I would get a good mechanic to go over it too. Too many times people skimp on the inspection process only to have it bite them on the butt later. Good luck on your quest.

Not sure where the car is located but I am in Buffalo NY if you need any help. What I think works good is find someone local to check out the car, and give you a idea if its even worth the trip if it turns out ok, you should drive up, its not that far see it yourself then if you like it rent a uhaul trailer and take it home with you. The trailer rental is cheap from them 160 if I remember. Let me know if I can help ya

Problem is that I don't have a car with a hitch to haul it. It may come to driving it back or shipping it back. Greyhound seem like a cheap/good way to get there.

if you are on a limited budget why pay the expense of getting a car from 1200 miles away? that's about a grand to get it home no matter how you do it. save the money, buy one locally. you are in a very populated part of the country that should have plenty of cars to look at. i'd be scared to death to buy an east coast car sight unseen, you guys are much more trusting than i am.
