Ok i'm running a 1970 malibu with a 5.7ltr 8cyl with 400cm holley carb. I got challenged by my bud to race him in his 2001 Volkswagen GTI 6cyl turbocharged. Should I take him up on it? Its a 1.4 mile race.

That's a tiny carburetor you have on there. Do you know what kind of cam is in the engine? Compression Ratio? Are you using headers? What type of exhaust? Do you know what your rear end gear ratio is?

If you're running a 350 Malibu wiht a small cam, restrictive exhaust, tall rear end gears (2.56-3.36), a small carb and full weight, i wouldnt run him for money.

What kind of course are you racing on? Street or track? Straight or curvy? How are your tires?

1.4 miles is a long time.

Don't race top speed in a chevelle, unless it's very well built. Just do a couple of sprint from 40 to 90mph. Go best 2 out of 3, and let him go "punch it first" because of his turbo. (or if he is a really good driver, he'll let you go first).

It will be clear who is quicker. 1.4 miles is overkill, only way to overcome a lead is for the oponent to crash or spray N20.
